Providence Catholic Celebrates 90 years of Excellence
Dear Providence Catholic Community,
Ninety years ago, in downtown Joliet, a courageous group of
sisters accepted responsibility for a small secretarial school
for Catholic girls to prepare them to work in the local area.
Since they were from the Sisters of Providence order, they named
the school Providence. Ninety years later, we are known as
Providence Catholic High School in New Lenox. This year, we
expect to welcome 1,140 boys and girls for the next step in
their Catholic education and prepare them for college and life
beyond.
The wonderful story of our school and its people is reflected in
the lives and the aspirations of the incoming freshmen who will
enter our building. They will soon realize that they are part
of a long tradition in education that was inspired by the strong
dedication and service of many sisters, brothers, priests and
lay people who helped to create what Providence Catholic High
School is today. While these are difficult and challenging
economic times, I rejoice in the generosity and support of our
faculty and staff, students, parents, alumni and community.
This year we will hold some special events that will help
celebrate our first 90 years, while we look forward to preparing
for the next 90. I
welcome all to play a role in the great
future of Providence Catholic, which will continue to be a
beacon of hope in our challenging world.
Sincerely,
Father Richard J. McGrath, OSA
