Minimum Specifications for BYOD

Please read this document carefully and in its entirety, as we have recently changed our requirements.


Any laptop you consider for purchase must meet or exceed the specifications listed here.  If you already own a device that you plan to bring, it must also meet or exceed these specifications.  Chromebooks, iPads, Android tablets and smartphones do NOT meet minimum specifications.**

 

Required for All Devices

  • Battery life: 5 hours or greater (or additional battery if possible)
  • An additional power/charging cable to keep at school
  • Keyboard
  • Protective case or sleeve
  • Durability to withstand the daily handling by a high school student

Highly Recommended for All Devices

  • Extended warranty to cover accidental damage
  • Insurance policy to cover lost/stolen devices
  • Headset/headphones/earbuds

Windows Laptop or Convertible Laptop

  • Operating System: Windows 10 or later ^
  • Minimum Screen Size: 10 inches
  • Memory: 2 GB, preferably more
  • Hard Drive Size: 64 Gb, preferably more
  • Wireless connectivity: 802.11 b/g/n/a/c
  • At least one full-size USB port or adapter
  • Preferred but not required:  Touch screen and stylus (pen)
  • Camera, microphone and speaker
  • Anti-virus/anti-malware protection

Mac OS Laptop

  • Operating System: macOS 10.12 (Sierra) or later ^
  • Minimum Screen Size: 10 inches
  • Memory: 4 GB
  • Hard Drive Size: 128 Gb, preferably more
  • Wireless connectivity: 802.11 b/g/n/a/c
  • At least one full-size USB port or adapter
  • Camera, microphone and speaker
  • Anti-virus/Anti-malware software

^ This will ensure that your operating system will be supported by manufacturer for all 4 years of high school use

** Students in the Class of 2020 who purchased an iPad or Chromebook prior to the start of freshman year are “grandfathered in” and are not required to purchase a new device if it is not feasible.  These students are encouraged to borrow a school laptop when their device prevents them from completing any class activity.
