Progress Reports
To
enhance parent-student-school communication, Providence teachers
will post student grades online
through our Edline subscription. All students receive a grade on
the progress report for every class.
This letter grade is an accurate indication of progress at that
time.
The progress reports are sent directly to the parents no later
than ten days from the deadline date
listed on the calendar. Parents may also be informed of progress
by parent-teacher conferences arranged by the parent or teacher. Teachers may keep the parent
informed any time during the quarter
by phone or in writing.

Edline
To even further enhance parent-student-school communication, Providence
teachers will post student grades (and other
information regarding their classes) online
at our
Edline website. Parents and students will
receive individual login names and passwords to gain access to only their students/their own
information. A link to Edline can be
found on the home page
of the school website.

Quarter grades
Quarter grades reflect the numerical average of all quizzes,
tests, papers, and other assignments
completed for that quarter. All assignments included in the
grade must receive a numerical equivalent. Numerical grades should be based on a system of 100
points. The relative weight of each
assignment is at the discretion of the teacher. Student work may
be weighted differently, such as quizzes versus exams, but should be based on the decimal
system.

Semester Grades
Semester grades are a combination of two quarter grades of equal
weight and the semester examination.
The relative impact of the semester exam on the semester grade
shall be no greater than twenty
percent. The semester examination may be included in the second
and fourth quarter grades at the
discretion of the teacher. Students may not be exempted from
any semester exam.

Grading Scale
Grades reflect a range of achievement. Numerical averages within
these ranges receive the following
grades:
|
A = 100 - 93 |
|
B = 92 - 85 |
|
C = 84 - 77 |
|
D = 76 - 70 |
|
F = 69 and below |
To provide for consistency in all disciplines, individual
assignments which receive only a letter
grade earn these numerical equivalents:
|
A = 96 |
|
B = 88 |
|
C = 80 |
|
D = 73 |
|
F = 69 and below |
Grades in academic classes may be lowered by the Academic
Committee due to excessive absences.

ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY
In
addition to identifying those students who are ineligible to
participate in extra-curricular activities, the eligibility
report helps teachers, coaches, and moderators identify those
students who are in need of academic assistance, so that
tutoring, guidance, and academic counseling can be provided.
Although teachers are required to list all students with failing
grades, they are encouraged to include students with “D”
averages so that teachers, coaches, and moderators can provide
intervention before a student becomes ineligible.
Policy:
-
The eligibility regulation pertains to all students involved
in any extra-curricular activity including athletics, clubs,
and organizations.
-
Eligibility is only cumulative over the course of a single
quarter. All students begin each quarter being eligible to
participate.
-
Teachers may not post a student as ineligible unless they
have a minimum of 3 grades which, when averaged together,
equal an overall score of 69.49% or below. ( i.e. 69.5% is
passing.)
-
Students must show a passing grade in every subject on the
day the eligibility list is due in order to be eligible to
participate in any extracurricular activity.
-
All teachers must submit an eligibility report as scheduled,
but in general, weekly.
-
Students receiving failing grades will be ineligible from
Sunday through Saturday. Students will not be removed from
the ineligible list mid-week, even if they make up
assignments.
-
Only the Assistant Principal may look into questions of
eligibility.
