CHOIR
Singing
Celtics Choir
The Providence Catholic Singing
Celtics are the Choir at PCHS. Students from the choir
serve as Cantor for the all-school Masses and the Choir provides
many anthems, preludes, postludes and communion meditations, as
well.
We perform a Christmas Concert and a
Spring Concert in conjunction with the Band. The music we sing
is usually in three or four-part harmony. We work on music of
all languages and styles; from the “Lacrymosa” of Mozart’s
Requiem to “Bless the Broken Road” of The Rascal Flatts. We
sing in many languages including Latin, German, Spanish, French,
Italian as well as English. Students also went on a Caroling
tour in December, and attended a student matinee at Lyric Opera
of Chicago in March.
In 2009, the Singing Celtics
received a “I” rating at IHSA Ensemble Competition.
A strong bel canto technique
is taught to help the students sing to the best of their
abilities in the healthiest way. Breath control, phrasing,
diction, vowel production, intonation, rhythm and form are
worked on daily.
For 2009-2010, Choir will be meeting
2nd hour in the Music Room S-229 and is open to all
interested singers who are attending Providence Catholic High
School. For further information on the Singing Celtics Choir,
please see the
Choir Edline page.
