concert band

The Providence Catholic Concert Band class program is an honors accredited class.

In the late fall, the band transitions into concert season and begins preparing for its annual Christmas Concert. The band performs and competes in the IHSA concert band competition. The band also prepares an annual spring concert. During the interim time between the Christmas Concert and Spring Concert, the concert band competes in “The State of the Art” band competition. The band also performs in the IHSA band competition which is a state wide event. At these events students not only compete with other schools but also will have top area teachers and university directors that work with each band.

Much of the material the students prepare is college prep. These musical pieces both excite and challenge the band student. The band program incorporates basic music theory, the classics, motion picture and current music genres that make this band program cutting edge and fun.

The band travels to different areas of the country on a concert band tour every year the band does not perform in a national bowl game. This tour is designed to prepare the band for its annual spring concert but also gives the student a taste of professional music life.  Most importantly, the tour creates a lifelong bond among students and a lifetime of memories

Mr. Carioto has created individual performance groups within such as jazz band and woodwind and brass ensemble. These programs are open to all band students and count as extra credit. Individual band members can also compete in IMEA and IHSA solo competitions.

Band Students are also nominated to become members of the prestigious TRI-M Music Society, a national honor society program designed especially for music students. Students attain different levels of status as they move from year to year. The band also elects from their peers, band officers that serve throughout the year. The band members also have monthly meetings to discuss band socials events, band events and music suggestions.  Mr. Carioto encourages students to be involved in student life such as sports and school clubs as well as band.

The Providence Catholic band experience truly is second to none in the Chicagoland area and provides students with a complete music program and many lifelong friendships. For those music students who want to take their musical experience a step further, Mr. Carioto also teaches AP Music Theory and a Music Appreciation class that covers the history of music from Bach to Beyonce.
