We are getting closer and closer to completion of the project.  The sod has been laid and the field has been playable for a week.  The new sound system has been installed around the field as well as inside the locker room.  The final phase for the field is to have the bullpens installed.  All that will be left is to finish landscaping around the building, lockers for the locker room, install steps going up the hill for the fans, install the backstop pads, install coat hooks in the visitors dugout, and asphalt.  WE ARE CLOSE!  We will update again as progress continues.

4/3/08

We have reached our final steps to completing the Tom Dedin Field renovations.  We can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.  As of today, April 3, 2008, sod is being laid and the irrigation system is being rewired.  Plans to have our 2008 home opener on April 5th is a go!  Once the sod is laid all that will be left is to get lockers for the locker room, redo the bullpens, asphalt around the building as well as landscape it, install the sound system and fix up the area beyond the 3rd base sideline.  A new green fence was installed on both sides of the field.   The dugouts are completed as well.  We are also installing 2 new batting cages down the left field line.  The field is looking beautiful and hopefully will be 100% completed within 2-3 weeks.  We are excited for our parents, students, alumni, and friends to come out and see the new facility.  We will update the project as we continue our way to completion.

3/17/08

Mother nature has not been kind to us so far in regards to completing the project.  We are about 85% complete.  The weather has put us about 4 weeks behind schedule but our goal is to play our first home game on March 31.  We have postponed our field dedication day of April 5 to a date to be determined.  The inside of the building is finished except for a few amenities like lockers, stools, and office furniture.  The dugouts are also just about finished with only bat and helmet racks to be installed along with hooks for jackets, equipment, etc.  The new fencing along the 1st and 3rd base sides is being completed as we speak with hopes of being finished by next Monday, March 24.  Hopefully we will also begin rebuilding the bullpens this week as they are going on the field side of the fence.  The final phases of this project will also begin this week with drain tile being installed and the landscaping and warning track being put in.  If all goes well, we may be playing at home by the end of the month or the 1st week in April.  In the mean time, our game vs. JT on Tuesday, March 18 will be at Joliet Junior College as well as our game on Wednesday, March 19.  Any questions please contact coach Smith.

The baseball project continues to near its conclusion.  The insides are close to being done.  Insulation, ceiling grid and tiles, electric work, and walls were all installed within the past month.  The outside portion is close to being done as well.  Things are moving along great.  Our next step will be to finish the insides of the building with painting, flooring, media countertop, stools/chairs, and lockers.

11/26/07

The framing has begun for the 2nd floor of the home dugout.  The 2nd floor will be the home of the Celtic’s locker room, game day coaches office and media area.  Once the exterior walls and floors are installed, the roof of both dugouts will be completed before the carpenters do the interior walls.  Things are going well and we will update when this part of the project is complete.

11/12/07

The brick work has been completed for the dugouts and backstop and now the backstop poles and nets are to be installed and completed shortlyNext, framing will begin followed by the roofing of the dugouts, the landscaping from dugout to dugout with a new warning track material and finally some asphalt and stairs will be laid replacing some of the gravel road.

In the near future, we are still hoping to replace our infield mix with clay/sand mix along with a red field conditioner as well as replacing the fencing along the 1st and 3rd base sides down to the outfield fence.  Once this is completed the bullpens will be moved on to the field.

8/24/07

In late August, demolition began on the old dugouts on the PCHS Varsity Baseball Field (Dedin Field).  The improvements will feature new brick dugouts and backstop with poles and netting.
