2-14-08:

Lincoln Way Central 51, Providence Catholic 28: Ice-cold shooting and a 15-3 second quarter run by the Knights spelled doom for the Celtics as they fell in the Regional Championship. Michelle Karr became the sixth 1000 career point scorer in school history, as she led the way eight points and three rebounds. Sophomore Katie Budz scored six points with three assists for Providence, which finished with a 19-13 record for the season.

 

2-11-08

Providence Catholic 34, Andrew 26: Sarah Budz and Katie Budz each hit a clutch pair of free throws down the stretch to clinch the victory in the opening round game at the Lincoln Way Central Regional. Michelle Karr led all scorers with 13 points, while hauling in eight rebounds. Sarah Budz chipped in with nine points, while Freshman Danielle Barry scored five points and grabbed eight caroms. The Celtics, who improved to 19-12, will meet the host Knights for the Regional Championship with hopes of avenging an early season six-point loss.

Joliet Township 67, Providence Catholic 57: Falling behind early, the visiting Celtics (18-12) could never quite get over the hump as they fell in the non-conference tilt. Michelle Karr scored 21 points, while Sarah Budz had an outstanding all-around game with 17 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists

Marist 64, Providence Catholic 56:

A courageous effort came up just short as the host Celtics (18-11, 4-6) fell in their final ESCC contest of the year. Michelle Karr scored 18 points to pace Providence, while Sarah Budz (six assists), and Chloe Oprzedek (six rebounds) chipped in with 15 and 14 points respectively.

Carmel 50, Providence Catholic 45:

The visiting Celtics (18-10, 4-5) were unable to fend off a fourth quarter rally by the Corsairs in the ESCC match up. Michelle Karr was the leading scorer with 15 points, and Allie Heniff came off the bench to drop in 12 points.

Providence Catholic 57, Downers Grove South 51: The Celtics (18-9) finally wrestled control of the game late in the fourth quarter to post the non-conference road win. Michelle Karr paced the victors with 27 points and eight rebounds. Sarah Budz chipped in with 11 points and eight assists, while Katie Budz added seven points.

Schaumburg 51, Providence Catholic 45: Despite 17 points and seven rebounds from Sarah Budz, the Celtics were unable to overcome 27 of 38 free-throw shooting from the Saxons, as they fell to 17-9 with a final round loss at the Sweet Sixteen in Lake Zurich. Michelle Karr and Allie Heniff added nine and seven points respectively.

Johnsburg 35, Providence Catholic 31: Cold shooting plagued the Celtics (17-8) as they fell in Sweet Sixteen play at Lake Zurich. Seniors Sarah Budz and Michelle Karr paced the Celtics with 10 points apiece, while Sophomore Chloe Oprzedek chipped in with nine points.

Providence Catholic 46, Marian Catholic 45: Sarah Budz (11 points, five rebounds, five assists) found sister Katie with a pin point pass for a lay-up as time expired, giving the Celtics (17-7, 4-4) a gutsy ESCC victory over the state ranked Spartans, sending a jubilant student body to the court for an on-floor celebration. Michelle Karr added 13 points and eight rebounds, while Chloe Oprzedek chipped in with nine points before a jam packed gym on Senior Night. Before the game seniors Sarah Budz, Katy Dominick, Michelle Karr, Sarah Nowicki, and Jamie Revell were honored for their hard work, dedication, and many achievements over the past four years. Special thanks to the crowd and the band for their undying support all game.

Providence Catholic 44, Nazareth Academy 40: The Lady Celtics sent a large home crowd home happy after battling to an ESCC victory. Michelle Karr led all scorers with 25, while adding six rebounds. Sarah Budz had a great over all game with seven points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists. Jamie Revell came off the bench with five points, and Nora Gibbons added three blocked shots. Providence improves to 16-7 overall, and 3-4 in conference. Next up is Marian Catholic for Senior Night, on Thursday the 24th.

St. Joseph 44, Providence Catholic 41: Despite a game-high 24 points and 15 rebounds from Michelle Karr, the Celtics (15-7, 2-4)  fell in overtime in a hotly contested ESCC match up in Westchester. Katie Budz and Sarah Budz each chipped in with five points, while Allie Heniff snared seven rebounds.

Fenwick 42, Providence Catholic 40: While a courageous effort came up just short on the scoreboard, the visiting Celtics (15-6, 2-3) gained a ton of respect throughout the basketball world. Playing without their second leading scorer, Katie Hannemann, Providence battled the state-ranked and defending State Champ Friars to the wire, before falling in the ESCC contest. Sarah Budz had a sensational all-around game with 20 points, six rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Michelle Karr chipped in with 14 points

Providence Catholic 47, Plainfield Central 37: Tenacious fourth quarter defense, that held the Wildcats to 1 for 12 shooting, pushed the Celtics (15-5) over the top en route to hard fought non-conference victory. Michelle Karr led the way with a career-high 29 points, along with seven rebounds. Katie Hannemann (seven points, 12 rebounds, four assists) and Allie Heniff (five points, four rebounds) came up big for the victors.

 

1-3-08:

Providence Catholic 53, Joliet Catholic 30: The Celtics (14-5, 2-2) got the 2008 portion of the season off to a good start with the ESCC road victory. A 22-0 second quarter run broke open what had been a tight contest for one quarter. Michelle Karr (four assists) led all scorers with 25 points. Katie Budz added 11 points, while Sarah Budz had a game-high seven assists and grabbed six rebounds, and Nora Gibbons registered seven blocked shots.

Providence Catholic 38, DeKalb 33: History was made as the Celtics (13-5) swept through the Naperville North/Benet Holiday Tournament with five straight wins and took home the first championship from a Christmas tournament in the program’s history. Katie Hannemann tallied 15 points, while Sarah Budz (four rebounds, three assists), and Michelle Karr chipped in with 10 and seven points respectively.

 

Karr and Hannemann were also selected to the all-tournament team, with Hannemann named the co-MVP.

 

12-27-07:

Providence Catholic 54, Glenbard West 40: Trailing after three quarters, the Celtics (12-5) exploded for a 23-8 fourth quarter to register the fourth round win at the Naperville North/Benet Holiday Tournament. Michelle Karr (23 points, seven rebounds) led a balanced attack for the victors. Sarah Budz (six assists) and Katie Hannemann (seven rebounds) scored 12 points each, while Sarah Nowicki came off the bench to grab five rebounds and play strong defense.

 

12-22-07:

Providence Catholic 56, York 44: The Celtics moved to 3-0 in the Naperville North/Benet Holiday Tournament, improving to 11-5 for the season. Katie Hannemann (24 points, nine rebounds) and Michelle Karr (22 points, seven rebounds) proved to be a 1-2 punch that York could not contain.

 

12-21-07:

Providence Catholic 39, Wheaton Warrenville South 34: Tenacious defense and a balanced attack led the Celtics (10-5) to the second round victory at the Naperville North/Benet Holiday Tournament. Katie Hannemann led the way with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Nora Gibbons added eight points, while Michelle Karr tallied all eight of her points in the decisive final quarter.

Providence Catholic 61, Naperville North 46: Michelle Karr bombed in a career-high seven three point shots, as the Celtics (9-5) registered a first round win at the Naperville North/Benet Holiday Tournament. Karr tallied a game-high 25 points, while Katie Hannemann was strong inside with 22 points and eight rebounds, and reached the 500 point mark for her career. Nora Gibbons and Katie Budz scored five points apiece.

Bishop McNamara 59, Providence Catholic 51: The host Celtics (8-5, 1-2) were unable to stave off a late rally by the Irish, as they fell in a hard fought ESCC contest. Michelle Karr scored a game-high 23 points, along with four rebounds and four steals. Katie Hannemann chipped in with 14 points for Providence, who will play next at the Naperville North/Benet Academy Holiday Tournament.

Providence Catholic 40, Benet Academy 35: The visiting Celtics (8-4, 1-1) earned a hard fought ESCC victory in Lisle. Michelle Karr dropped in a game-high 23 points, while grabbing seven rebounds to pace the victors. Katie Budz added six points, while sister Sarah finished with five points a nd six rebounds.

St. Viator 55, Providence Catholic 52: In an ESCC thriller, the Celtics (7-4, 0-1) came up just short in the overtime contest. Katie Hannemann led the hosts with 17 points and eights rebounds, while Michelle Karr added 14 points, and Sarah Budz finished with six steals.

 

12-6-07:
Providence Catholic 72, Lyons Township 45:  The host Celtics jumped to a 18-0 lead, and cruised to the non-conference victory. Michelle Karr spearheaded an offensive juggernaut, that saw four players reach double figures, with a career-high 27 points. Jamie Revell scored a season-high 12 points, while Katie Budz and Sarah Budz chipped in with 11 and 10 points respectively. Karr and Katie Budz each had five rebounds to lead the team, while Sarah Budz dished out four assists. Providence improves to 7-3 for the season.

 

12-4-07:
Providence Catholic 34, Sandburg 27: Tenacious defense was the catalyst for an impressive non-conference road victory for the Celtics (6-3). Michelle Karr (11 points, seven rebounds, three assists), Sarah Budz (seven points), and Katie Budz (six rebounds) paced the attack for the victors.

Lincoln Way Central 52, Providence Catholic 46: The visiting Celtics fell to 5-3 with the non-conference loss in New Lenox. Sarah Budz led the Celtic attack with 11 points, seven rebounds, and six assists. Katie Hannemann added 10 points and 12 rebounds, while Chloe Oprzedek and Michelle Karr chipped in with nine and seven points respectively.

Providence Catholic 67, Queen of Peace 34: The host Celtics improved to 5-2 with the non-conference triumph. Michelle Karr led all scorers with 15 points, while Katie Hannemann chipped in with 13 points and five rebounds. Point guard Sarah Budz added nine points and five rebounds for Providence.

Providence Catholic 52, Washington 50: Down 12 points entering the fourth quarter, the visiting Celtics (4-2) roared back for a thrilling victory in the opening round Sweet Sixteen contest. Michelle Karr (19 points, seven rebounds, five steals), Katie Hannemann (15 points, seven rebounds), and Sarah Budz (13 points, four assists) paced the attack for the victors. Allie Heniff and Chloe Oprzedek came off the bench with great defensive intensity to help key the comeback.

Geneva 65, Providence Catholic 46: The host Vikings came out strong in the second half and held off the Celtics in the championship tilt of the 20th Annual Geneva Thanksgiving Tournament. All-tournament selections Michelle Karr (14 points) and Katie Hannemann (12 points, five rebounds) led Providence, which saw its’ record slip to 3-2 for the season.

Providence Catholic 57, Rosary 43: An impressive win propelled the Celtics (3-1) into the title game at the Geneva Thanksgiving Tournament. The dynamic duo of Michelle Karr (26 points, eight rebounds) and Katie Hannemann (22 points, eight rebounds) led Providence. In addition, Karr reached the 500 point mark for her career.

Wheaton North 53, Providence Catholic 51: The Celtics came up just short in the opening round of the 20th Annual Geneva Thanksgiving Tournament. Katie Hannemann paced Providence (1-1) with a game-high 17 points. Michelle Karr recorded a double-double with 16 points an d 11 rebounds, while Jamie Revell added seven points.

Providence Catholic 67, Rich East 34: The visiting Celtics rolled in the season opener. Katie Hannemann led the way with 14 points, while Michelle Karr (nine rebounds) and Chloe Oprzedek chipped in with 11 points apiece. Sarah Budz also reached double figures with 10 points, and game-high six assists.

2-8-08

Providence Catholic 49, Joliet Township 40: Jumping to an 11-0 lead, the Celtics never looked back en route to the coast to coast non-conference win. Brianne Vandenberg led the way with 16 points and seven rebounds. Gina Pashos came off the bench to score nine, Mallory Morgan had eight points, Ally Hoss grabbed seven rebounds, and Meghan Mulvey came up with five steals. The season-ending victory gave the Sophomores a sparkling 21-5 record for the year

 

2-2-08: 

Marist 48, Providence Catholic 39: Ice cold shooting in the first and third quarters proved to be the downfall for the Celtics (20-5, 6-4) as they wrapped up conference play before the home crowd. Emily Persak led the way with 12 points. Brianne Vandenberg added nine points and seven rebounds, while Mallory Morgan scored seven points along with grabbing six boards.

 

1-30:08: 

Providence Catholic 41, Carmel 22: A 15-4 second quarter put the visiting Celtics (20-4, 6-3) in control as they registered an impressive ESCC road victory. Meghan Mulvey (four steals) led a balanced attack with 11 points. Brianne Vandenberg (five assists) added nine points, Mallory Morgan tallied eight, while Emily Persak chipped in with seven points and eight rebounds for Providence.

Providence Catholic 41, Downers Grove South 29: The visiting Celtics won for the 19th time in 23 tries with the non-conference triumph. A 13-4 second quarter gave the victors a lead they would never relinquish the rest of the way. Brianne Vandenberg led the way with 13 points. Ally Hoss and Meghan Mulvey scored eight points apiece, while Julia Farnesi snared a team-high six rebounds.

 

1-24-08:
Marian Catholic 44, Providence Catholic 33: A 13-5 Spartan third quarter erased a one point halftime lead as the host Celtics (18-4, 5-3) fell in a rugged ESCC match-up. Mallory Morgan (eight rebounds) and Brianne Vandenberg led the way with 11 points apiece, while Ally Hoss added eight points, five rebounds, and three assists.

Providence Catholic 43, Nazareth Academy 30: The host Celtics (18-3, 5-2) took control by outscoring the Roadrunners 27-12 over the middle two quarters, to register the ESCC triumph. Brianne Vandenberg led Providence with 15 points, while Meghan Mulvey (four steals) chipped in with seven points, and Ally Hoss hauled in eight rebounds. Emily Persak and Julia Farnesi added six points and six rebounds each.

Providence Catholic 54, St. Joseph 10: The visiting Celtics (17-3, 4-2), jumped to a 23-7 lead after one quarter and held the Chargers to just three free throws over the final three quarters en route to the ESCC triumph. Brianne Vandenberg registered a double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds. Emily Persak (four steals) tallied 10 points, Mallory Morgan added nine points, and Ally Hoss and Sam Lacy chipped in with five points each, as 11 players scored for Providence.

Fenwick 47, Providence Catholic 26: Ice-cold second half shooting doomed the Celtics (16-3, 3-2), as the visitors saw a nine-game winning streak come to a halt in the ESCC match up. Brianne Vandenberg led Providence with 13 points, while Mallory Morgan (five rebounds, four steals) and Meghan Mulvey added five points apiece.

Providence Catholic 62, Plainfield Central 38: Jumping to a 29-9 lead after one quarter, the Celtics never looked back and registered the non-conference victory, improving to 16-2 for the campaign. Emily Persak (four steals) and Brianne Vandenberg paced the victors with 14 points each. Ally Hoss added 10 points, along with five rebounds and six assists.

 

1-3-08:

Providence Catholic 36, Joliet Catholic 34: The visiting Celtics (15-2, 3-1) held on to register the ESCC victory. Brianne Vandenberg led the way with 12 points, Danielle Barry chipped in with five, and Meghan Mulvey, Ally Hoss, and Emily Persak scored four points each.Hoss was the leading rebounder with six.

 

12-28-07:

Providence Catholic 35, DeKalb 21: A 16-3 third quarter put the game out of reach as the Sophomores followed the lead of the Varsity team and won the Naperville North/Benet Holiday Tournament with five straight wins. Emily Persak (13 points, five steals), Brianne Vandenberg (nine points), Meghan Mulvey (seven points, three assists), and Danielle Barry (seven rebounds) led the attack for the victors, who improved to 14-2 for the campaign.

 

12-27-07:

Providence Catholic 28, Glenbard West 25: Outstanding defense proved to be the difference in the hard fought and physical fourth round contest at the Naperville North/Benet Holiday Tournament. Brianne Vandenberg led the Celtics (13-2) with 14 points and nine rebounds. Ally Hoss and Danielle Barry each scored five points, while Hoss and Mallory Morgan grabbed five rebounds apiece.

 

12-22-07:

Providence Catholic 34, York 26: The Celtics improved to 12-2 with the third round win at the Naperville North/Benet Holiday Tournament. Brianne Vandenberg (20 points, eight rebounds), Mallory Morgan (five points), and Meghan Mulvey (five points, three assists) paced the victors.

 

12-21-07:

Providence Catholic 37, Wheaton Warrenville South 33: A spirited 15-3 fourth quarter comeback propelled the Celtics (11-2) to a second round win at the Naperville North/Benet Holiday Tournament. Emily Persak led the scoring with 12 points. Danielle Barry added eight points, while Ally Hoss chipped in with seven points and four assists.

Providence Catholic 40, Naperville North 33: The Celtics improved to 10-2 with the opening round triumph at the Naperville North/Benet Holiday Tournament. Brianne Vandenberg (15 points, seven rebounds), Mallory Morgan (six points, seven rebounds, four assists, and Ally Hoss (10 rebounds, three assists) led the way for the victors. Danielle Barry and Emily Persak scored six points apiece.

Providence Catholic 52, Bishop McNamara 41: Pin-point passing and tight defense allowed the Celtics to extend a nine point halftime lead to a 23 point margin after three quarters. Brianne Vandenberg led the way with 18 points, while Danielle Barry came off the bench to score 10 points and grab 12 rebounds. Emily Persak (five assists) and Mallory Morgan each tallied eight points for the victors. With the ESCC victory Providence improves to 9-2 overall, and 2-1 in conference.

Providence Catholic 43, Benet Academy 27: The Celtics (8-2, 1-1) led from start to finish as they registered an impressive ESCC triumph on the road. Brianne Vandenberg (16 points, nine rebounds, three assists) led the way, while Danielle Barry (six points, six rebounds) and Emily Persak (five steals, five rebounds) also came up big for Providence.

St. Viator 43, Providence Catholic 37: The visiting Lions used red-hot shooting to overcome a 12 point third quarter deficit to defeat the Celtics in their ESCC opener. Brianne Vandenberg paced Providence (7-2, 0-1) with  a game-high 17 points and 10 rebounds. Ally Hoss added eight points, six rebounds, and six assists.

Providence Catholic 40, Lyons Township 35:  For the second straight game, the Celtics (7-1) pulled out an overtime thriller, in front of the home crowd. Brianne Vandenberg (14 points, five rebounds), Danielle Barry (nine points, 12 rebounds), Emily Persak (seven points, three assists), and Ally Hoss (10 rebounds, three assists) led the attack for the victors.

Providence Catholic 28, Sandburg 25:  After falling behind 7-0 to open the contest, the Celtics fought back for a hard earned overtime victory on the road, to improve to 6-1 for the season. Brianne Vandenberg scored 11 points to lead the team. Ally Hoss (five points, five steals), Emily Persak (five points), Mallory Morgan (six rebounds), and  Meghan Mulvey (five steals) all were major contributors. In addition, Lauren Tinervia came off the bench to play outstanding defense.

Providence Catholic 29, Lincoln Way Central 24: Offensive patience and strong defense were the keys as the visiting Celtics (5-1) posted the non-conference victory. Brianne Vandenberg led the way with a game-high 11 points. Meghan Mulvey chipped in with six points, while Mallory Morgan snared a team-high 10 rebounds and dished out three assists.

Providence Catholic 37, Queen of Peace 34: Meghan Mulvey swished a three-pointer at the buzzer to give the host Celtics (4-1) a hard fought non-conference victory. Brianne Vandenberg led the Celtic attack with 13 points and five rebounds. Emily Persak added eight points, while Ally Hoss chipped in with six points, four assists, and three steals.

Marist 40, Providence Catholic 36: The Celtics (3-1) could not stave off a fourth quarter rally by the Redhawks in the title game of the PCHS Invite.

All-tournament selection Brianne Vandenberg led the hosts with 10 points. Ally Hoss added eight points, Emily Persak seven, and Mallory Morgan chipped in with six points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

Providence Catholic 32, Hillcrest 31: In a very physical contest, the Celtics improved to 3-0 with the nail-biting win in the second round of the PCHS Invite. Brianne Vandenberg paced the attack with eight points. Emily Persak and Meghan Mulvey chipped in with seven points each, while Julia Farnesi added five points and six rebounds.

Providence Catholic 40, Homewood-Flossmoor 17: The host Celtics (2-0) came out strong and registered an opening win in the inaugural Providence Catholic Girl’s Basketball Invitational. Ally Hoss (14 points, five steals) led all scorers. Brianne Vandenberg (nine points, nine rebounds), Emily Persak (nine points), and Meghan Mulvey (four assists, seven steals), and Julia Farnesi (six boards off the bench) were all big contributors in the win.

Providence Catholic 52, Rich East 7: The Celtics jumped to an early 14-2 lead and never looked back as they recorded a road victory in the season opener. Ally Hoss (10 points, five steals), Brianne Vandenberg (seven points, five rebounds), Emily Persak (seven points), and Meghan Mulvey (five points, three assists) led the balanced attack, which saw all 11 players score at least one basket.

Joliet Township 49, Providence Catholic 38: Outstanding free throw shooting by the host Steelwomen in the fourth quarter proved to be the difference as the Celtics fell in the season finale. Megan Hettinger paced Providence (13-13) with 16 points. Mandy Coglianese added nine points and four assists, while Mindy Maloney chipped in with five points and seven rebounds.

 

2-2-08: 

Marist 31, Providence Catholic 21: Falling behind 10-1 to start the game the host Celtics (13-12, 4-4) were unable to catch the Redhawks. Megan Hettinger paced Providence with 10 points. Mindy Maloney chipped in with six points, while Chelsey Hickey added six. The Celtics put forth an outstanding effort on defense.

 

1-30:08: 

Carmel 50, Providence Catholic 49: The visiting Celtics (13-11, 4-3) came up just short in an ESCC overtime thriller, as their nine-game winning streak was snapped in Mundelein. Megan Hettinger (17 points, 10 rebounds, five assists), Mindy Maloney (10 points, 11 rebounds), Maggie Ruettiger (eight points), and Mandy Coglianese (six points, four assists) led the balanced Providence attack.

Providence Catholic 32, Downers Grove South 27: The winning streak grew to nine with the non-conference road win for the Lady Celtics (13-10). Andi Heniff led a balanced attack with eight points. Mindy Maloney added seven points along with 14 rebounds and seven blocked shots. Maggie Ruettiger and Chelsey Hickey each chipped in with six points.

Providence Catholic 39, Marian Catholic 30: Jumping to a 14-2 lead after one quarter the Celtics (12-10, 4-2) never looked back as they posted an impressive ESCC victory. Megan Hettinger led a balanced attack with 12 points and seven rebounds. Mandy Coglianese (eight points, three assists), Andi Heniff (six points, six rebounds), and Mindy Maloney (10 rebounds, four assists) were all major contributors in their eighth straight win.

An 18-4 second quarter put the game out of reach. Mindy Maloney led the victors with 13 points. Megan Hettinger added nine points, Mandy Coglianese tallied eight, while Annie Grossmayer and Andi Heniff chipped in with six apiece.
