4-22-08

The Celtic Boys Track Team took first place in dominant fashion at the eight team Pontiac Relays. 

Kevin Maloney took first in the shot put and the Big Man 100 while taking forth in the discus.  Patrick Ward took first in the discus and second in the shot.  Alec Pickett took first in the F/S discus and  Steve Laski won the F/S shot.  Those four weight men also dominated on the track by winning the weightman 4x100. 

Other first place finishes on the track:

  • 4x800 Mark Coglianese (1:57.9 split), Krish Ramaduri, David Hansen, Luke Weimar (2:04split).

The Providence Catholic Boys Track Team took first place at the Lemont Indian Sprints. 

First Place Finishers were:

The Providence Celtics Boys Track and Field Team took third place at the 10 team Blue Smoke Relays at Thornridge HS.  The Celtics finished behind Thornridge and Bolingbrook and ahead of Lincoln Way East, Lake Zurich, Normal West, Leo, Whitney Young, Bradley-Bourbonnais, and Eisenhower.  Top finishers for the Celtics were:

  • Discus -  Patrick Ward   132”

The Fresh/Soph also contributed by winning the 4x400 relay – 3:43.1  Jason Prunsky, Tim Foley, Carroll Evans, Joey Quinlan.  Alec Pickett won the discus – 114’6 and took third in the shot put with a 40”11’.  The 4x800 also took third – 9:07.  They included Krish Ramaduri, Ian Land, Sean Forrest, and David Hansen.

The famous weightman relay of Laski, Pickett, Ward, and Maloney also took second place.

 

The Celtics are home on Thursday at 4:00 vs Marist and St. Rita and will head to Lemont on Friday night where they look to defend their title of the past two years.

The varsity boys track and field defeated Romeoville 97-71 over Easter break and won at JCA on Tuesday.

Congrats to the Boys Track team who had their Catholic League Conference Indoor track meet on Sunday.  The Varsity finished in fourth and the Frosh/Soph finished fifth.

Catholic League champions were: 

Jason Vollmer in the high jump 6’ 2”

Kevin Maloney in the shot put 53’ 4” 

Other medal winners for the Varsity were: 

Joey Michals -2nd place in the hurdles

Mark Coglianese – 3rd place in the 400 meter

Sean Lindbloom – 3rd place in the 55 meters and 200 meters

Patrick Ward – 3rd place in the shot put

The 4x200 relay team of Greg Metelak, Michals, Steve Cusack and Lindbloom took 3rd

The 4x400 relay team of Michals, Cusack, Ryan Griffin and Coglianese also took 3rd

2007 Recaps

5-19-07

The Celtics Boys Track Team, coming off their Catholic League Championship, had another record breaking performance at their sectional meet on Friday, May 18. The Celtics again dominated in the sprint relays and finished with a best ever second place in the 19 team field.  They defeated traditional powers Lockport, Hillcrest, L.W. Central, Andrew and Joliet Township.

Coming in as underdogs, the Celtics shocked everyone by winning the 4x100, 4x200, and 4x400 relays!  Members of the 4x100 team include Brandon Phillips, Ken Eichorst, Mark Coglianese, and Sean Lindbloom. In the 4x200, Frank Murray replaced Ken Eichorst. The 4x400 team of Phillips, Murray, Coglianese, and Dan Murphy, shattered the school record with a time of 3:20.6.

Coglianese and Phillips finished the night with 3 gold medals!

2nd place finishers/state qualifiers include: 

     Dan Murphy         400m   49.28  (school record)

     Sean Lindbloom   100m   10.92

     Kevin Maloney     Shot Put   54'4

The Providence boys track team successfully defended their Chicago Catholic League Championship on Saturday, May 12 at Loyola Academy.  It is the first time in school history that the Celtics have won back to back titles.  The 14 team competition was tight from start to the last event, when the 4x400 relay team won to secure an 8 point victory over Brother Rice.

5-4-07

The Boys Track team competed in the always competitive Chicago Catholic League Frosh/Soph Conference Tournament.  The Celtics had a great evening ending up in 5th place in the 13 team field.  Leading the Celtics were sophomores Patrick Ward and Joey Michals, each winning two individual events!

Ward won the shot put with a toss of 46'-2" and the discus with 133'-0". Both were personal bests for Pat!  Michals took home first in the 110 High Hurdles and set a Providence sophomore record and Catholic League sophomore record with his 41 second time in the 300 meter low hurdles!  Great job frosh/soph Celtics!

4-24-07

Celtic Boys Track finished in 2nd place at the 7 team Pontiac Invitational. The Celtics dominated in the sprint events taking first place in the 4x100, 4x200, and 4x400. Relay members included Ken Eichorst, Sean Lindbloom, Mark Coglianese, Frank Murray, Brandon Phillips, and Dan Murphy. The weight man relay stayed undefeated while Kevin Maloney and Dave Litterio, took 1-2 in the Big Man 100. Pat Ward took 1st place F/S in both shot put and discus. Frank Murray took first place in the triple jump. The F/S also won the 4x100 and 4x200 with Greg Metelak, Carroll Evans, Joey Michals, Josh McGhee and Dan Mendoza. The Hurdle team of Mike Smith, Ryan Griffin, Joey Michals and Brandon Phillips also took first place.

4-19-07

The Celtic Boys Track team battled to the final race and finished with a best ever 2nd place at the 2007 Cardinal Relays!  Providence scored 141 points and finished ahead of Bolingbrook, Romeoville, Shepard, Eisenhower, Joliet Township, Marist and Richards. 

The Celtics were led by the weight men who won the big men 4x100 relay (Frank Cariote, Kevin Maloney, Mike Smith, and David Litterio).  The F/S Discus relay team of Pat Ward, Jake Lembke, Joe Sawicki and Alec Pickett also won.  The Varsity shot, Varsity disc and F/S shot all took second. 

On the track, Dan Murphy set the school record and took 1st in the 400m dash with a time of 49.6 and Mark Coglianese took 4th at 50.97.  Sean Lindbloom  took 3rd in the 100m dash with a time of 10.88.  The 4x800 relay team of Joe Fitzpatrick, MJ Moore, Luke Weimar, and Dan Murphy took first with a time of 8:28.19.  Joey Michals won the F/S 300 hurdles with a personal best 43.60.

The Celtics finished the night by setting a school record in the 4x400 relay (Dan Murphy, Frank Murray, Mark Coglianese, and Brandon Phillips) with a time of 3:23.03.

Boys Track team took 3rd place at the Catholic League Indoor Track Meet.  Missing one of their top runners and state qualifiers Dan Murphy due to illness, The Celtics battled for every point. The Celtics were just 2 points out of second and 10 points from first. Top performers included Brandon Phillips – 1st place 400m and 2nd place 55m and 200m. Mark Coglianese – 2nd place in 400m, Kevin Maloney – 2nd place shot put, Sean Lindbloom took 3rd in the 55 and 4th in the 200m. The 4x800 relay team of MJ Moore, Pat Mitoraj, Luke Weimar and Joe Fitzgerald also took 3rd. The Fresh/Soph finished 5th and were lead by Pat Ward who took 2nd in the shot put and Ian Pickett who scored in 4 events: HJ, Long Jump, 55 Hurdles and 4x400 relay. Joey Michals also placed in the 55 Hurdles, 400m and 4x400 relay.

The Boys Track Team took second place in the 20 team Chicagoland Catholic Schools Invitational at Lewis University. They missed placing first by half a point.  Brandon Phillips led the way taking first place in the 55 dash, 200 dash (meet record 23.26), 400 dash, and was on the 4x400 relay team.  The relay team which included Dan Murphy, Frank Murray, and Mark Coglianese also set the meet record in a time of 3:32.8.  Sean Lindbloom finished second in the 200m and third in the 55.

2006 Recaps

The Providence Catholic Varsity Boys Track team took First Place in the 39th annual Irish Relays at Bishop McNamara on Saturday, May 6.  The Celtics scored 80 points followed by Kankakee with 58 and Bishop Mac with 55.  Momence was 4th followed by Bradley Bourbonnais and St Anne.  Brandon Phillips was the meet MVP funning the 100m (10.8) dash and anchoring the winning 4x100, 4x200, and 4x400 relay teams.  The 4x100 relay (43.8) members included Eric Boyle, Sean Lindbloom, Will Moore and Phillips.  The 4x200 (1:32.2) team included Mark Coglianese, Lindbloom, Moore and Phillips.  The 4x400 (3:26.5) had Dan Murphy, Moore, Coglianese and Phillips.  Second place finishers were Will Moore in the long jump, the 4x800 team of Joe Fitzpatrick, MJ Moore, Pat Mitoraj and Dan Murphy, and the Sprint Medley of Ian DeGrasse, Boyle, Adam Chiarugi and Joe Fitzpatrick.

The Frosh-Soph Boys Track team took second place in the 13 team Catholic League Conference meet.  Conference Champs were:  4x400 relay (44.9) Mark Coglianese, Ken Eichorst, Eric Boyle and Sean Lindbloom; 4x200 relay (1:36.2) Ken Eichorst, Eric Boyle, Brendan Whatley and Sean Lindbloom; Shot Put (47’101/2) Kevin Maloney; 200m (22.9) Sean Lindbloom

 

The boys track team took FIRST PLACE out of eight teams at the Pontiac Relays on Wednesday, April 26.  In all the years going to this meet, it is the first time they have ever brought home the championship trophy!

Congratulations to the Providence Catholic Boys Track team who placed first at the Injun Sprints Invitational at Lemont High School on Saturday, April 15.

The Providence Boys Track team brought home another team plaque finishing in second place at the 10 team Thornridge Blue Smoke Invitational on April 8. The Frosh-Soph dominated by winning 3 of the 4 relays as well as shot put and triple jump.  Brandon Phillips took first place in the 100 and 200 meter dash and Dave Litterio won the discus.  The weight man relay also took a first place. 

The Boys Fresh-Soph track team took 1st place at the Andrew Invitational on April 5.  The team scored 217 points to 104 for Andrew, 80 for Marian Catholic, 67 Tinley Park and 53 Rich Central.  1st Place finishers: 4x800 Relay team:  Frank Murray, Blake Cornell, Joe Fitzpatrick, Luke Weimer; 4x100 Relay team: Mark Coglianese, Eric Boyle, Kenny Eichorst and Sean Lindbloom; 110 High Hurdles: Ryan Griffin; 800m Run: Frank Murray; 4x200 Relay:  Ryan Gray, Eric Boyle, Kenny Eichorst, Sean Lindbloom; 300mHurdles: Joe Michals; 200mDash: Sean LIndbloom; Triple Jump:  Frank Murray; Shot Put: Kevin Maloney; and Discuss: Mike Smith.  The Celtics took first place in 10 of the 16 events and 2nd in 3 of the other 6 events.

The Boys Track team defeated JCA on April 4 by the score of 119-17.  Junior David Litterio threw the discuss 168 feet which is the second longest throw in school history.

Chicago Catholic League Indoor Conference meet was held on Saturday, March 18.  Providence Frosh-Soph team placed 3rd out of the 14 participating schools.  Leading the Frosh-Soph team were Sean Lindbloom, Conference Champ in the 55 meter dash and 5th place in the 200 meter dash, and Kevin Maloney, Conference Champ in the shot put. Kevin's winning distance of 45'-2" was more than 2 feet farther than his closest competitor!
Other point scorers were:
Frank Murray - 2nd place in triple jump and 7th in the 800 meter run Ryan Gray - 4th place in triple jump Blake Cornell 4th and Drew Grinnel 6th in high jump Ryan Griffin 6th and Josh Lembke 8th in the 55M hurdles Mark Coglianese 5th in the 55 meter dash and 2nd in the 400 meter dash Ken Eichorst 9th in the 200 meter dash.


The Varsity team finished the conference meet in 4th place. The team was led by great performances by Brandon Phillips and Will Moore. Points scorers were:
Brandon Phillips - 2nd place in the 55M dash, 4th place in the 200M dash, and 2nd place in the 400M dash.
Will Moore - 5th place in Long Jump, 2nd place in triple jump with a personal best 42'-31/2" and 3rd place in High Jump with a personal best of 6'-0".
 

John Moran - 8th place in the 55M hurdles Jordan Farrell - 4th place in the 55M dash MJ Moore - 4th place in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:44.6.

That closes out the indoor season. Come cheer the boys on at their first outdoor meet on March 28th when Joliet, Romeoville and East Aurora pay Providence a visit!

Congratulations to Providence Catholic High School Boys Track Team takes second place.  For the first time ever, the Providence Boys Track team came home with a trophy from the Chicagoland Catholic Schools Invitational, which took place on Sunday, March 12.  The team made a strong showing in 9 of the 15 events to bring home the 2nd place trophy. In all, the team won 7 medals, including Brandon Phillips winning the 55 meter dash. Other medal winners are listed below.
The team will close the indoor season on Saturday, March 18 with the Catholic League Championships starting at 4:00 pm in the Proviso West field house.
