The Providence Library is open every school day (Monday through Friday) from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Resources
New books, videos, CD-ROMs and databases are added all the time, so stop by the library frequently to check out our new acquisitions.  To date, we have

  • Over 20,000 titles of hardcover and paperback books, Electronic and Audio Books

  • Magazines, Journals

  • Newspapers

  • Videos, CDs, DVDs, Audio Cassettes

  • Electronic Resources & Research Databases

  • Member of the PALS Library System (We can borrow from libraries throughout Illinois.)

Study Hall & Library Passes: 
If you have a study hall and would like to use the Library's resources to work on an assignment or look for books, please obtain a pass from your study hall teacher. 

Checkout
Be sure to checkout all library materials at the Circulation Desk.  Likewise, return all checked out materials in the Book Return Drop at the Circulation Desk.  You need your school ID to check out materials. 

  • Books:  2-week checkout  (May be renewed)

  • Overdue fines:  10 cents/day (3 day grace period)

  • Reference Books:  Overnight checkout only

  • Magazines:  Do not circulate - use copy machine for articles

  • Videos:  Overnight checkout only

  • Electronic Subscription Databases (Databases we pay for - so reliable, authoritative, current, purpose: to educate students, information chosen by experts - unlike some information on the Web):

To use the resources at school: always log on using your own name and password.  Keep your password confidential, as you are responsible for anything that happens when you are logged on to the network.

  • To use the research databases from home, use the User Name and Password listed on the webpage under each database(The user name and password you use at school will not work from home.)

Library Organization: 
We use the Dewey Decimal system.  The prefixes for the various types of library materials are:

  • FIC – Fiction

  • PB F – paperback Fiction

  • REF – Reference

  • V – Vocational/Careers

  • DVD, Video, CD,

  • LGE – Large Size books

  • B – Biographies

Rules and Regulations:

  • Playing games on the computers is not permitted during the school day.

  • You may play computer games before and after school

  • No food, drink or chewing gum in the Library

  • You need your student ID to check out materials

  • Xerox machine:  10 cents per copy

  • Overdue Charges:  10 cents per day; your English teacher will give you your overdue notices – please don’t ignore them

  • Lost or damaged materials have to be be paid for

  • Please do not re-shelve books – leave on the table, at the circulation desk or on the cart next to the library windows

  • To use Internet resources, we must have your signed Internet Acceptable Use Policy on file

And finally, the library is a quiet place for study.  Please respect the rights of other library users by keeping our Providence Library neat, clean and quiet.
