Providence Catholic High School Honors the Recipients of the 2018 Cor Unum Award

Providence Catholic High School has selected The Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods as recipients of the Cor Unum Award.

The Cor Unum award is the most prestigious award bestowed by PCHS. It is given to those who have provided extraordinary service to Providence Catholic and who embody “One in ministry, one in mission, one in family.” During our centennial year, PCHS would like to honor the Sisters of Providence who founded the school and served here for over 60 years.

The Cor Unum Medallion, the school’s most prestigious honor, is awarded annually to persons who exemplify its inscription of “One Heart…in, Ministry…in, Mission…in Family.” The school president, Rev. John Merkelis, presents the medallion at a special celebration including a mass and brunch. Those who receive the award personify the meaning of “Cor Unum” through their generosity to help Providence Catholic become the school it is today; a community of believers working toward the common goals of providing a safe and healthy environment for students to grow spiritually, academically and socially.

To highlight the importance of this award, a $5,000 endowed scholarship is established in the name of the recipients. These scholarships will be award on the basis of financial need. Last year the school awarded 28 Cor Unum Scholarships to students. “It is our hope that the Providence Catholic community will continue to contribute toward these scholarships to increase the financial assistance available to students need,” said Ed Barrett, Director of Institutional Advancement at PCHS.
