June, 2008
Dear Parents & Students:
We thank the Class of 2008, their parents, and families for
richly enhancing the entire PCHS community over these past four
years and invite them to remain active in the PCHS family. The
graduation ceremony on May 29th was a solemn and
gratifying conclusion to each senior’s career at PCHS and making
the start of their journey as young adults. The speeches
presented by the Valedictorian and Salutatorian stressed the
past, present, and future as well as the unity, hope, and love
that the senior class have for each other and the PCHS family.
This group of seniors have a very bright future because they
have worked hard over the past four years enhancing their
capabilities as young adults. The leadership the seniors
provided the PCHS community is greatly appreciated, establishing
a level of expectation for all of the students at Providence
Catholic. The seniors have truly followed the mission that
Jesus Christ has called them to live.
The month of May which has concluded the 2007-2008 school
year has very much been a month of celebration for all the
students. Obviously the students and many others are glad that
the school year is finished and summer break has started. May
was a month to honor the accomplishments of the student body and
especially the seniors in many ways. This recognition of
achievement began with the “Teacher Appreciation Week” in which
the students through the Student Council and National Honor
Society expressed their gratitude to the faculty and staff. The
“Academic Awards Assembly” presented an opportunity to honor and
recognize all student’s academic achievements, but especially
those students who achieved special recognition. The
“Mini-College Fair” for sophomores and juniors was a wonderful
opportunity to emphasize and stress the type of universities and
colleges that the underclassmen qualify for future attendance.
The “Spring Concert and Art Exhibit” provided the entire student
body the opportunity to celebrate and appreciate the talent of
the Fine Arts students.
As always, the “Mother’s Day Mass” provided the students
and our entire community the
opportunity to thank and celebrate the sacrifices that all the
mom’s make for their students. This Mass is a beautiful way to
honor each mom in the image of Mary. The “Fine Arts Breakfast”
was especially gratifying not just for the usual celebration of
the Fine Arts Program, but also to Mr. Faust and Mrs. Poskocimas.
All of these individual program celebrations were held by each
of the programs in Spring Sports as a way to honor the
achievements of the athletes. As usual the PCHS community
expressed their appreciation of the senior class at the
“Baccalaureate Mass”, “Senior Breakfast”, “Senior Dinner Dance”,
and culminating at the Graduation on the 29th. This
has truly been a month long celebration of a very successful
school year.
The summer break brings about many challenges. One
challenge is to keep our minds analytically active. The use of
our observation skills to synthesis all that goes on around us
will provide growth of our mind, body, and spirit. The
educational process never stops; therefore, all students are
encouraged to read and journal daily to keep their skills as
sharp as possible.
We look forward to the return of the students for the
start of the 2008-2009 school year and welcome the Class of 2012
to the PCHS family. Please remember in your daily prayers all
those in the PCHS family and our local communities who need the
power of prayer in these difficult times. Also, our women and
men in the Armed Forces need our prayers for their safe return
to their families.
Sincerely,
Donald E. Sebestyen, Principal

BOOK STORE VOLUNTEERS

specific shift each week either before school (7:00 AM to
8:30 AM) or after school (2:00 PM to 3:30 PM) to help in the
daily routine of selling books, candy, and clothing to
students. If you have time to share and can volunteer on a
“once a week” basis, please call the bookstore at 815-485-2136
ext. 537. Your help would be truly appreciated!
We hope this summer
provides opportunities for all of us to thank God and those
around us for all of the gifts and successes we have received
this past school year. Please enjoy a safe and meaningful
summer!
