About the National Merit Program
To earn the title of "National Merit Commended Student", you
must be among the top five percent
of all students in the the United States who took the
Preliminary SAT/National Merit scholarship Qualifying Test,
which is taken in
October.
To
become a "National Merit Semi-Finalist", you must be among the
highest scorers in the state.
National Merit Finalists are chosen from the pool of
semi-finalists on the basis of their academic record,
principal's recommendation, and scored earned on the SAT test.
