Congratulations to the Boys Track Team
who took first place at the Chicago Catholic League Conference Meet.
They dominated by taking first place in 6 of the 18 events and set two
meet records. Providence Finished with 131 points followed by Loyola
113, Mt Carmel 88 and Br. Rice 75.
The Celtics were led by Troy Sheppard who
won the 100m and 200m dash. Troy was named the Tony Lawless Award
winner as the MVP of the meet. Coach Coglianese was also named the Tony
Lawless Outstanding Coach.

Congratulations to the Boys Varsity
Track Team who where Champions at the 45th IRISH RELAYS
on Saturday. Troy Sheppard was named the meet most outstanding
athlete! He earned 3 gold medals on the day.

The F/S Track Team took second
place in the 13 team Catholic League Conference Meet on Friday night.
The
Celtics were dominant in the field events and set two F/S Conference
records.

Brandon Denler and Andy Jatis took first and second in the pole
vault. Denler set the record by vaulting 12 feet 8 inches breaking
the record set by Chad Weaver last year.

Mike Monroe set the High Jump record by clearing 6 feet 6 in.
-
Jeff Cesario won the discus with Scott Hansen and Evan Carston also
placing.
-
Matt Lahey took third place in both the long jump and triple jump.
-
The shot put throwers David Kaminski, Evan Carston, Jeff Cesario and
Sean McGrath scored 18 points by taking 3rd, 4th,
5th and 6th place.

Tyler Harton had a good day by taking 5th in the high
jump and 6th in the 110 high hurdles.

Nate Vejvoda was 5th in the 800m run.

The
Celtic Boys Track Team headed south for Pontiac Relays and
returned home late Tuesday night with the first place trophy. The
Celtics totaled 163 points and were followed by Mahomet- Seymour and
Pontiac. The Celtics dominated in the field events by winning 9 of 12
events.
Chad
Weaver had the most outstanding performance by setting another school
record by clearing 15 feet 6 inches in the pole vault. That solidifies
him as one of the top vaulters in the state.

Ward, Matt Tucker, Nick Beller and Andrew Helmin dropping 5 seconds off
their previous best time.

The
Celtic Boys Track Team had another outstanding performance at the
at the Eisenhower Terry Englund Relays. The Celtics finished in second
place in the 18 team invitational, just four points out of first place.
The
high jump relay team set a meet record by jumping a combined 24’1”,
breaking the old record by over a foot. The four jumpers were: Mike
Monroe 6’7”, Andrew Helmin 5”10”, Jake Hopkins 5”10”, Sean Fitzgerald
5’8”.

Congratulations to the Boys Track Team who
competed in three invitational’s over Easter break. The frosh/soph took
first place at Andrew, while the Varsity took first place at Lemont for
the 7th consecutive time. A combined F/S and varsity team took third
place at the Blue Smoke Invitational at Thornridge HS. Sophomore Mike
Monroe tied a school record in the high jump. Mike cleared the bar at
the height of 6 feet 8 inches.

strong showing at Saturday’s Illinois Prep Top Times Indoor State Track
Meet held at Illinois Wesleyan University. Medal winners include:

THE CHICAGO CATHOLIC LEAGUE INDOOR TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS
Providence Catholic Celtics
totaled 90 points and finished in second place behind St Ignatius who
had 96 points. Loyola, Mt. Carmel, and Br. Rice finished out the top
five.
The
Celtics were led by Troy Sheppard who won the long jump (21’ 2”)
and the 200m (23.01) dash. Troy finished second in the 55m (6.55).
Chad Weaver amazed everyone
again by setting a personal, school, and Catholic League meet record by
clearing 15 feet 3 and ¼ in. in the pole vault.
Jesse Long was also a champion
in the shot put with a throw of 50’11”.
Kevin Ward took second in the
400m (52.33) and teamed with Nick Beller, Jake Hopkins, and
Matt Tucker to finish 2nd in the 4 X 400 relay.
Nick
Beller also finished third in the 800m (2:01.50).
The
F/S team took 3rd place and had some record performances.
Mike Monroe set the F/S Conference record by winning the High Jump
at 6’4”.
Jeff Cesario won the shot put
43’4”.
Mitchell Sharkey took second in
the mile and set a Providence freshman record with a time of 4:50.3.
The 4
X 400 relay team of Mike Monroe, Nate Vejvoda, Andy Jatis, and
Justin Gardner took second place. Jatis also took third in the pole
vault 8’6”.
Matt Lahey was third in the
long jump 19’2”.
David Kaminski was third in the
shot put at 40’9”.
2012 ICOPS Champs

March 4, 2012
The Providence Catholic Celtics took first place in the 21 team ICOPS
Indoor Track and Field Invitational. The Celtics were led by senior
Troy Sheppard who took first in the 55m dash (6.58) and the 200 meter
(23.55). Also taking first place was Andrew Helmin in the 55 High
Hurdles (7.91) and Chad Weaver in the pole vault. Chad vaulted 15 feet,
setting a school record and ranking him as one of the top vaulters in
the state.
This was the first time the Celtics won this premier indoor event.

Interview with Chad Weaver
Junior Chad Weaver set the
school record in the pole vault at 15 feet and is currently the second
best vaulter in the state. Weaver took first place at Chicagoland ICOPS
Meet on March 4.
General Information
Sprints, jumps, hurdles, relays, distance events, pole vault and
weight events (shot put and discus) are some of the events that are
included in a track and field meet. With 18 events, there is
something for all athletes to compete in.
We are very competitive and
successful in the Chicago Catholic League Conference and have
continually sent individuals down state to compete. Track is conducted
in the winter, beginning in February, with an indoor season and in the
spring with an outdoor schedule. There is a frosh/soph team and a
varsity team.
