About our Band Program
The band’s program is broken up into two distinctive parts. The fall semester is mainly dedicated to marching performances including performances at all home football games and regional parades. The band competes in select marching band competitions. The Providence band also enhances the student experience by touring all over the country every other year. The trips alternate between a concert band tour and performing at major bowl games.
In the late fall, the band transitions into concert season. The material performed by the students is college preparatory level that both excites and challenges the band student. It includes basic music theory, music classics, motion picture and current music genres that are cutting edge and fun for the student. The band performs and competes in the IHSA & IMEA concert band competition. Students also compete individually in solo and ensemble competitions with IHSA and IMEA.

Marching Band & Pep Band
The Providence Catholic Marching Celtics are the heart and soul of many school events. The band performs and rocks the stands during football season as well as performs field shows for pregame and halftime, creating a university-like atmosphere. During basketball season the band continues to energize the crowd and the school. The band is split in half into a white and green band and performs for a select number of boys’ and girls’ varsity games.
The color guard performs with the marching band at home football games, parades and competitions (including the Illinois State Marching Championships). The color guard is a non-musical section that provides “color” and visual effects to the performance.
There are individual performance groups within the band program, such as jazz band, woodwind and brass ensemble. These programs are open to all band students. Individual band members can also compete in IMEA and IHSA solo competitions.
Tri-M Music Society
Band Students are also nominated to become members of the prestigious Tri-M Music Society, a national honor society program designed especially for music students. Students attain different levels of status as they move from year to year.
