Celtic Spotlight: Senior Katie Flynn

Providence Catholic senior Katie Flynn spent part of her year making a difference through volunteer work with Special Olympics, where she had the opportunity to work alongside and support students in special education.

For Katie, the experience was especially meaningful because it connected directly to something she has been passionate about for years. She enjoyed getting to know the students, encouraging them and helping create an environment where everyone felt welcomed, supported and included.

“My biggest takeaway was seeing how much a little encouragement and support can mean to someone,” Katie said. “My favorite part was getting to know the students and seeing how happy and excited they were.”

Beyond the opportunity to serve others, Katie’s experience also gave her a glimpse into the career she hopes to pursue after high school. She plans to become a special education teacher, and the time she spent working with students reinforced just how much that path means to her.

The experience showed Katie the impact that patience, encouragement and genuine connection can have in the lives of others—and made her even more excited for what lies ahead.

“This experience made me even more excited about my future career and confirmed that special education is something I want to pursue,” she said.

We are proud to spotlight Katie for using her time and talents to serve others and for already taking meaningful steps toward a future dedicated to helping students feel supported, valued and included.
