Celtic Spotlight: Seniors Give Back with Toy Drive for Silver Cross Hospital
Seniors Siena Adducci and Cole Hagwell recently organized a toy drive for Silver Cross Hospital, aiming to bring joy to children in the ER.
Siena, a long-time volunteer at Silver Cross, explained her motivation: “I decided to do this drive because I am a volunteer at Silver Cross. As we were going through toys, we noticed that the Hospital’s stock was running low. I have seen how much of an impact the toys have on kids and I thought that more of them should get to experience some joy while in the hospital.”

When asked why she chose Silver Cross, Siena said, “The hospital relies on volunteers to help patients and it is a part of the community I live in.” She added, “It is important to me because I enjoy making other kids feel appreciated and being able to give them something that can help pass the time while in the ER. Working in the ER has shown me that a small act of kindness can have a huge impact on someone else’s life.”
Siena also shared how her time at Providence Catholic has inspired her service work: “The mission at Providence aligns with God’s mission for everyone and has inspired me to serve others whenever we can by helping those in need and giving back to our community.”
Cole, who has volunteered at Silver Cross for a year, echoed Siena’s commitment. “The ER does a great job making children feel more comfortable by giving them a toy when they’re here. We noticed that the Hospital’s stock was running low and wanted to give back. Our hope is to take away the fear for the hospital that children often have and put a smile on their faces.”
For Cole, the importance of giving back is clear: “I feel that it’s important to give back to our community. Even the smallest toy can make a big difference for families going through hard times.” He also emphasized how Providence’s core values have influenced his service: “The core Augustinian values of Providence have taught us to serve our community. This is why I want to help.”
Through their toy drive, Siena and Cole have demonstrated how compassion, community, and service go hand in hand – living out the Celtic mission of helping others and making a positive impact right in their own backyard.
