Thirteen Providence Catholic Student-Athletes Make College Commitments

NEW LENOX (November 10, 2016) – Dr. John Harper, Principal of Providence Catholic High School, is pleased to announce that seniors Makenna Bartecki, Michael Cascino, Jordan Chavez, Ricky Costello, Melissa Flynders, Alyssa Gromala, Drew Hunniford, Michael Massaro, Jessica Miklos, Summer See, Morgan VanderWey, Marvin Weaver and Kailey Zych will continue their respective sports at the collegiate level. “We are extremely proud of these young men and women for their dedication and wish them the very best in college and in the future,” said Harper.

Makenna Bartecki of Lockport, daughter of Jeff and Karen Bartecki, committed to continue her volleyball career at the University of St. Francis where she received academic and athletic scholarships and plans to major in Business.  Bartecki is a graduate of St. Joseph’s Catholic School and a parishioner at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. The honor roll student is a member of the National Honor Society and has been a member of the girls’ volleyball team for the past four years.

Michael Cascino of Palos Park, son of Tony and Tammy Cascino, signed his National Letter of Intent to attend Butler University where he plans to major in Business Finance and continue his golf career. He received both an academic and athletic scholarship. Cascino is a graduate of St. John of the Cross School and a parishioner at St. John of the Cross Church. The honor roll student is a member of the National Honor Society and has been a member of the Celtic hockey and golf teams for the past four years.

Jordan Chavez of Crest Hill, son of Nick Chavez and Lori Venske, committed to continue his bowling career at Judson University where he received academic and athletic scholarships and plans to major in Pre-Medicine. Chavez is a graduate of Richard Junior High School and a parishioner at Cathedral of St. Raymond in Joliet. The honor roll student has been a member of the bowling team for two years and baseball team for the past four years.

Ricky Costello of Homer Glen, son of Dan and Denise Costello, signed his National Letter of Intent to attend Iowa State University where he plans to major in Business and continue his golf career. He received both an academic and athletic scholarship. Costello is a graduate of Homer Junior High School and a parishioner at St. Bernard’s Church. The honor roll student has been a member of the varsity golf team for the past four years.

Melissa Flynders of Mokena, daughter of John and Shannon Flynders, committed to continue her volleyball career at Valparaiso University where she received academic and athletic scholarships and plans to major in Business. Flynders is a graduate of St. Mary Catholic School and a parishioner at St. Mary Catholic  Church. The honor roll student has been a member of the volleyball team for the past four years.

Alyssa Gromala of Mokena, daughter of Joseph Gromala and Tracy Stafford, signed her National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she plans to major in Biology and continue her golf career. She received both an academic and athletic scholarship. Gromala is a graduate of Mother Teresa Catholic Academy and a parishioner at St. Liborius. The honor roll student is a member of the National Honor Society and Habitat for Humanity. She has been a member of the girls’ golf team for the past four years.

Drew Hunniford of Frankfort, son of Matthew and Carol Hunniford, committed to continue his baseball career at St. Xavier University where he received academic and athletic scholarships and plans to major in Biology. Hunniford is a graduate of Hickory Creek Middle School and a parishioner at St. Anthony Church. The honor roll student is a member of the National Honor Society and has been a member of the Celtic baseball team for the past four years.

Michael Massaro of Homer Glen, son of Mike and Lea Massaro, signed his National Letter of Intent to attend Hillsdale College (Michigan) where he plans to major in Finance and continue his baseball career. He received both an academic and athletic scholarship.  Massaro is a graduate of Oak Prairie Junior High and a parishioner at Our Mother of Good Counsel. The honor roll student is a member of the National Honor Society and has been a member of the Celtic hockey and baseball teams for the past four years.

Jessica Miklos of Lockport, daughter of Joseph and Terri Miklos, signed her National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Wisconsin-Parkside where she plans to major in Marketing and continue her softball career. She received both an academic and athletic scholarship. Miklos is a graduate of Homer Junior High and a parishioner at Our Mother of Good Counsel. The honor roll student is a Eucharistic Minister and has been a member of the girls’ softball team for the past four years.

Summer See of Orland Park, daughter of Michael and Cynthia See, signed her National Letter of Intent to attend DePaul University where she plans to major in Business/Communications and continue her volleyball career. She received both an academic and athletic scholarship. See is a graduate of Noonan Academy and a parishioner at St. Michael Catholic Church. The honor roll student is a member of Habitat for Humanity, Respect Life Club and Art Club.  She is also a Student Ambassador and has been a member of the girls’ volleyball team for the past four years.

Morgan VanderWey of Tinley Park, daughter of John and Dawn VanderWey, committed to continue her volleyball career at St. Mary’s College of Notre Dame where she received an academic scholarship and plans to major in Nursing. VanderWey is a graduate of Cardinal Joseph Bernardin School and a parishioner at St. Elizabeth Seton Church. The honor roll student is a member of the National Honor Society, Augustinian Youth Ministry and Habitat for Humanity.  She is also a Celtic Time Leader, Eucharistic Minister and has been a member of the girls’ volleyball team for the past four years.

Marvin Weaver of Frankfort, son of Marvin and Corey Weaver, signed his National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Louisville where he plans to major in Business and continue his for Track (Pole Vaulting) career on an athletic scholarship. Weaver is a graduate of Hickory Creek Middle School and a parishioner at Peace Lutheran Church. The honor roll student has been a member of the Celtic football and track teams for the past four years.

Kailey Zych of Monee, daughter of Don and Deb Zych, committed to continue her softball career at St. Xavier University where she received academic and athletic scholarships and plans to major in Nursing. Zych is a graduate of Peotone Junior High School and a parishioner at Zion Lutheran Church. The honor roll student is a member of the Augustinian Youth Ministry and Habitat for Humanity.  She has been a member of the softball team for the past four years.
