PCHS Names Kyle Murphy New Head Boys Basketball Coach

(New Lenox) – Doug Ternik, Athletic Director of Providence Catholic High School, is pleased to announce the hiring of Kyle Murphy as the new varsity boys basketball coach. Murphy served as the varsity assistant boys basketball coach at the school and is looking forward to the opportunity to grow the Boys Basketball Program.

“I have three goals for my players,” Murphy said. “First, I want them to do well academically because a solid education is a foundation for a successful life. Secondly, I want them to work hard on the court. We will work on skill development. And lastly, I want them to bring positive energy and an enthusiasm for the game because that’s what great cultures are built on.”

Murphy (a Homer Glen Native) is a 2004 graduate of Providence Catholic and a former Celtic basketball player. He is a college counselor at Providence Catholic and former psychology teacher at the school.

He is a graduate of Loyola University, Chicago and earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Murphy also received his Master’s Degree in School Counseling from Lewis University in 2010.

“He is ready to take over the program, and he will be a great fit,” Ternik said. Kyle has always been able to prioritize what is important and as a result, he’s been successful at every step along the way. His intelligence, work ethic and genuine care for his players will make for a very successful season.”

The Providence Catholic Boys Basketball team has a good foundation of returning players, and Murphy believes they will bring leadership and depth to the team.

Murphy comes with a strong background of coaching which includes, one year as Sophomore Assistant at Oak Forest High School, five years as Head Freshman Coach at Providence Catholic and Varsity Assistant Coaching the last three years. He has also coached AAU for the Windy City Magic organization.

Murphy currently resides in New Lenox, IL with his wife, Eileen, and son, Declan.
