Providence Catholic Awards Two Seniors with Athletic Awards

NEW LENOX (May 24, 2023) – Each graduation, the Providence Catholic High School Athletic Department honors seniors with its two most prestigious awards – the Jaime Garcia Scholastic Athlete Award and the Senior Athletic Spirit Award. On May 20, 2023, Mr. Doug Ternik, Athletic Director at Providence Catholic, called the two awardees to the stage to receive their awards.

“The Jaime Garcia Scholastic Athlete Award is given to the senior who has shown excellence both academically in the classroom and in the athletic arena,” said Ternik.

This year’s recipient, Elizabeth Kulpinski, is an officer of the National Honor Society, a Kairos leader, and an Augustinian Scholar. Athletically, she is a two-time GCAC Scholar Athlete in volleyball. She has led her team in digs the past two seasons and was voted to multiple all-tournament teams.

“She is one of those players that makes everyone around them better,” adds Ternik. “As a fierce competitor, she is a natural leader and the most caring teammate.”

Kulpinski will be attending the University of Notre Dame. She is the third member of her family to receive this award.

The Senior Athletic Spirit Award is given to a senior who exemplified the Celtic Spirit either by participation or by support of the Athletic Department and is selected by the Providence Catholic coaching staff.

Recipient Jude Allen is captain of the baseball team. He is a member of the National Honor Society, a student ambassador, and has emceed for several Celtic events.

“Jude exhibits constant support of athletics and has true Celtic passion with his dedication to Celtic teams and his classmates,” adds Ternik. “Coaches say he is Mr. Celtic, coachable, caring, and a leader.”

Allen will be attending the University of Wisconsin-Parkside to continue his baseball career on an academic and athletic scholarship.
