Six Providence Catholic Student-Athletes Make College Commitments

NEW LENOX (February 1, 2017) – Dr. John Harper, Principal of Providence Catholic High School, is pleased to announce that seniors Chris Binder, Jared Drake, Martez Malone Jr., Kevin Marmo, Kevin O’Boyle and Richie Warfield will continue their football careers at the collegiate level. “We are extremely proud of these young men for their hard work in the classroom and on the field. We wish them the very best in college and in the future,” said Harper.

Chris Binder of Frankfort, son of Michael and Nancy Binder, committed to continue his football career at Elmhurst College where he received an academic scholarships and plans to major in Exercise Science.  Binder is a graduate of Cardinal Joseph Bernardin and a parishioner at St. Elizabeth Seton Church.  The honor roll student is a member of the Augustinian Youth Ministry, Habitat for Humanity and is a Eucharistic Minister.  He has been a member of the Celtic football and track teams for the past four years.  Binder received the Matt Senffner Award for football and was named Student of the Month.

Jared Drake of Shorewood, son of Richard and Debra Drake, committed to continue his football career at the University of Rochester where he received an academic scholarship and plans to major in Finance and minor in Accounting.  Drake is a graduate of Minooka Junior High School and a parishioner at Holy Family Church.  The honor roll student is a member of the Augustinian Youth Ministry and Habitat for Humanity.  He has been a member of the Celtic football for the past four years and co-captain of the team (’13, ’14, ’16).  He was named CCL Blue All-Conference, Herald News 2nd Team All-Area and Academic All-State his senior year.  Drake was also named Student of the Month.

Martez Malone Jr. of Plainfield, son of Martez Sr. and Phylicia Malone, signed his National Letter of Intent to attend McKendree University where he received an athletic scholarship to continue his football career.  Malone plans to major in Physical Therapy.  Malone is a graduate of Aux Sable Middle School and has been a member of the Celtic football team for the past four years.  He was co-captain of the football team his sophomore season and named All-Area (’13, ’14, ’15).  Malone was also named Student of the Month.

Kevin Marmo of Mokena, son of Frank and Jill Marmo, committed to continue his football career at University of Wisconsin-Platteville where he received an academic scholarship and plans to major in Biology and minor in Chemistry.  Marmo is a graduate of St. Mary Mokena School and a parishioner at St. Mary Mokena Church.  The honor roll student is a member of Habitat for Humanity.  He has been a member of the Celtic football and lacrosse teams for the past four years and named 22nd Century All-Area 2nd Football Team his senior year.  He was also co-captain of the lacrosse team (’16, ’17).

Kevin O’Boyle of Plainfield, son of Kevin and Michele O’Boyle, committed to continue his football career at Carthage College (Wisconsin) where he received an academic scholarship and plans to major in Business Finance.  O’Boyle is a graduate of Drauden Point Middle School and a parishioner of Holy Family Church.  The honor roll student is a member of the National Honor Society, Augustinian Youth Ministry, Law Club and a Sacristan.  He has been a member of the Celtic football team for the past three seasons and the baseball team for all four years.  He was named CCL Blue All-Conference 2nd Team and Academic All-State for football his senior year.  O’Boyle was also named Student of the Month.

Richie Warfield of Orland Hills, son of Rich and Mina Warfield, committed to continue his football career at the University of Dayton where he received an academic scholarship and plans to major in Business.  Warfield is a graduate of Cardinal Joseph Bernardin and a parishioner at St. Elizabeth Seton Church.  The honor student is a member of the National Honor Society, Augustinian Youth Ministry and Student Council (President), Law Club, and Guitar Club.  He is also a Student Ambassador and a Eucharistic Minister.  Warfield has been a member of the Celtic football and track teams for the past four years.  He was co-captain of the football team (’15, ’16), Offensive MVP (’16), CCL Blue All-Conference 2nd Team, Academic All-State his senior year and a member of the 2014 7A State Championship football team.  Warfield is an Illinois State Scholar, received numerous PCHS academic subject awards and was named PCHS Student of the Month and Joliet Exchange Club Youth of the Month.
