Six Student Athletes Commit to Collegiate Athletics

NEW LENOX (February 7, 2024) – Mr. Doug Ternik, Athletic Director at Providence Catholic High School, announced that six student athletes will continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level. “We take great pride in our student-athletes who excel not only in academics but also demonstrate leadership both in the classroom and on the field. As they embark on their college journey, we extend our best wishes for their success and look forward to their continued achievements in their sports,” said Ternik.

Evangelina Gabrisko of New Lenox, Illinois, daughter of Daniel and Tracie Gabrisko, has been recognized for committing to North Central College to continue her dance career. She plans to major in Graphic Design and minor in Dance. Bilinski is a member of St. Jude Parish in New Lenox, from which she also graduated. A member of the honor roll, she was inducted into the National Honor Society. She is a member of the Tabletop Games Club, for which she serves as President; the National Art Honor Society; Jazz Band; and Art Club. Athletically, she has been a member of the Dance Team all four years, and served as Captain her junior and senior years. “Providence has expanded my studies in all aspects of my education. It has deepened my love for art which is why I plan to continues with my studies of art,” she says. “I would like to thank Head Coach Stephanie Coglianese and Assistant Coach Kristina Olsen for pushing me as a dancer and person. Being on their team was a great experience and really shaped me as a person. I would also like to thank my parents for supporting me along every step of the way.”


Dylan Mott of Mokena, Illinois, son of Christopher and Rebecca Mott, has been recognized for committing to California Lutheran University to continue his golf career on academic scholarship. He plans to major in Sports Management. He is a member of Parkview Church and graduated from Mokena Junior High School. At Providence, Mott has been a member of the honor roll, and a member of the STEM Club. He has been a dedicated player for the Varsity Golf Team all four years, serving as Captain his junior and senior year. As a senior, he was voted MVP. “Providence has helped me create better time management skills and helped me create better study habits to help me succeed,” he says. “I would like to thank my coach, John Platt; Micha Micha Morris; and my parents.”


John Greenwood of Shorewood, Illinois, son of Kelvin and Erin Greenwood, has been recognized for committing to North Park University to continue his baseball career on an academic scholarship. He plans to major in Physical Therapy. He is a member of Holy Family Parish, from which he also graduated. Greenwood is a member of the honor roll in addition to participating in the Augustinian Youth Ministry, Dialogue Club, and Forensics Club. He faithfully served as a Kairos leader his senior year. Athletically, Greenwood has been a member of the baseball team all four years, as well as playing basketball his freshman year. He was named to the WJOL All-Tournament Team as a baseball player. “Providence has prepared me for college by helping me in the classroom, and with note taking and studying,” he says. “I would like to thank my family. They were the ones who pushed me the most. My dad pushed me to become better in the weight room, as well as on and off the field. My sister helped me become mentally better in the sport I play. And my mom has helped me gain back my confidence and is always cheering me on in the stands. She always taught me to ‘Be you, don’t let other people dictate who you are supposed to be.’”


Byron Olson of Peotone, Illinois, son of Byron and Joann Olson, has been recognized for committing to University of Wisconsin Platteville to continue his football career on academic scholarship. He plans to major in Business and minor in Engineering. He is a member of Saint Constantine and Helen Green Orthodox Church and graduated from Peotone Middle School. He is a member of the honor roll. While at Providence, Olson has been a member of the Football Team all four years, Wrestling freshman year, and Track his freshman and sophomore year. He was a member of the state runner-up football team his junior year. “Providence Catholic has helped me to become more organized and prepare for college through the classes they offer. The teachers are always willing to help me understand the material,” he says. “I would like to thank Coach Plantz and all my past coaches for giving me the opportunity to show what I had on the field and giving me a chance to prove myself. I would like to give a big thanks to Coach Plantz and the team for letting me play with them and giving it all I’ve got; they were always supportive about whatever happened with football.”


Michael Roberson of Minooka, Illinois, son of Mike and Karen Roberson, has been recognized for committing to John A. Logan College to continue his baseball career. He is a graduate of Channahon Junior High. At Providence, Roberson has been a member of the baseball team since freshman year. “Providence taught me the importance of getting work done,” he says. “I would like to thank my parents, coaches and teammates.”


James Barry of New Lenox , Illinois, son of Brian and Kristin Barry, has been recognized for committing to Roosevelt University to continue his football career on an athletic scholarship. He is a member of St. Jude Parish, New Lenox, from which he is also a graduate. While at Providence, Barry has been a member of the basketball team his freshman year, and the football and track teams all four years. “I believe that the teachers in the Celtic Learning Center helped prepare me for college both academically and personally,” says Barry. “I would like to thank my parents, coaches, and the teachers in the CLC.”
