Six Student Athletes Commit to Collegiate Athletics

NEW LENOX (April 13, 2022) – Mr. Doug Ternik, Athletic Director at Providence Catholic High School, announced that six student athletes will continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level. “As always, we are extremely proud of these athletes. They are academically accomplished students who are leaders in the classroom and in their respective sports. We wish all of them the very best in college and in the future, and are excited to see them continue playing at the next level,” said Ternik.

Bree Nawrot of Wilmington, Illinois, daughter of Jason and Sandra Nawrot, has been recognized for committing to St. Ambrose University to continue her volleyball career on an academic and athletic scholarship. She plans to major in Nursing and minor in Spanish. Nawrot is a member of St. Joseph Church in Manhattan and a graduate of St. Mary’s Mokena. A member of the honor roll, she has also been involved in Habitat for Humanity, IALAC 2.0, and volleyball at Providence Catholic. “Providence has prepared me for the future because it has given me a great home where I have grown and improved academically and athletically,” says Nawrot.

Brian Treacy of Lockport, Illinois, son of Sean Treacy and Kerri DeFranza, has been recognized for committing to St. Norbert College to continue his career in football on academic scholarship. He plans to major in Business Administration and minor in Marketing. Treacy is a member of Our Lady of the Woods Parish, and is a graduate of Homer Junior High School. A member of the honor roll, he has played football and baseball all four years at Providence. He was named Football 1st All Conference Team his senior year. “Providence has prepared me for college through the great education and structure it provided me by the wonderful teachers, counselors, and coaches I have been blessed to have for the past four years,” Treacy said.

Nicole Magdziasz of Tinley Park, Illinois, daughter of Tom and Ann Magdziasz, has been recognized for committing to St. Leo University for softball on an academic scholarship. She plans to major in Computer Science. Magdziasz is a member of St. Stephen Deacon and Martyr Parish and a graduate of Summit Hill Junior High. A member of the honor roll, she has also been inducted into the National Honor Society. At Providence, she is also a member of the National Spanish Honor Society, and has played softball all four years. She set the Softball Individual Single Season Stolen Base Record her junior year. “Providence allowed me to reach challenging yet attainable goals that were a tremendous part of my growth,” says Magdziasz. “The incredible teachers have pushed me past my limits and have provided foundational skills needed for not only college, but for the rest of my life. I have also been blessed to experience a family atmosphere that I will share outside my time at Providence.”

Margaret McGrath of Joliet, Illinois, daughter of Stephen and Mary Kay McGrath, has been recognized for committing to Carroll University to continue her soccer career on an academic scholarship. She plans to major in Physical Therapy. McGrath is a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Joliet, from which she is also a graduate. A member of the honor roll, she has also been inducted into the National Honor Society. At Providence, she is also a member of the Scholastic Bowl, Math Team, Respect Life Club, and IALAC 2.0. She has served as a Kairos leader, a Eucharistic Minister/Sacristan, and a Student Ambassador. In addition, she has played varsity soccer all four years and varsity track and field her sophomore year. “Providence Catholic High School has prepared me for college by giving me crucial life lessons to be able to be successful in life. For example, through academics, I have been able to discover my passion and find who I truly am,” says McGrath. “Providence Catholic is the reason I am who I am. I would not be the same person if it were not for the faculty and staff here. I cannot thank everyone enough for all that they have given to me.”

Jimmy Arentz of Homer Glen, Illinois, son of Jim and Chris Arentz, has been recognized for committing to Dominican University to continue his basketball career. He plans to major in Business and minor in Marketing. Arentz is a member of St. George in Tinley Park, from which he is also a graduate. A member of the honor roll, he has also played basketball and baseball at Providence Catholic. He earned a Basketball All-Conference Honorable Mention his junior and senior years, and was the Basketball Team MVP his junior and senior years. “Providence has prepared me both athletically and academically,” says Arentz.

Aidan Mack of Crete, Illinois, son of LaRoy and Cynthia Mack, has been recognized for signing his National Letter of Intent to Northern State University in South Dakota to continue his football career. He plans to major in Business Administration. Mack is a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, and is a graduate of Crete Monee Middle School. A member of the honor roll, Mack has played football all four years at Providence. He was the football captain his senior year, and was also named to the All-Conference Team and the All-State Second Team. In addition, he earned the Matt Senffner Award for his dedication to the sport. “Coming in to Providence, I had to adapt to new challenges like most students between a new social life, harder school work and a more demanding football workout schedule,” says Mack. “Providence taught me great time management skills that I will use even past college.”
