Special Needs Basketball Clinic Hosted by Girls and Boys Basketball

“When everyone’s included, everyone wins.”

Providence Catholic Girls and Boys Basketball Teams are proud to host the 2nd Annual Super Celtics Special Needs Co-ed Camp on January 4th and 5th, 2024. “We are excited to again offer this opportunity for area grade school students with special needs, and invite these children to have some fun while learning about basketball,” says Coach Jenna Maziur. “It was a wonderful event last year, and we look forward to expanding it this year.”

Each camper will be paired with a 2-on-1 group or with a 1-on-1 high school player as their buddy for the duration of the camp. As a supervisor of the camp, Jenna Maziur was a special education teacher for seven years along with having a son who has nonverbal Autism. Noah Senffner, a Providence alumnus and current boys basketball coach, will assist. Noah holds a Master of Education with a concentration in Special Education/Learning Behavior Specialist 1. Registration is available at www.providencecatholic.org.

Parents are encouraged to stay for the camp. The drills and games will be modified to best fit the needs of the campers. “Our girls and coaches enjoyed this event so much last year,” says Eileen Copenhaver, Head Girls Basketball Coach at Providence Catholic. “I think it’s important to take the things you love, like basketball, and find a way to share that love of the sport with others. Our players definitely learned as much last year as they taught, and we look forward to this year’s event and having the boys basketball team join us.”

Campers may sign up for one of three sessions, and each session is limited to 20 participants.

  • Ages 5-10 Session 1: 9:00-10:00 AM
  • Ages 5-10 Session 2: 10:15-11:15 AM
  • Ages 11-15: 10:15-11:15 AM

Varsity player Seth Cheney is excited to help, as the event is very important to him. “Growing up with a brother with special needs, it means a lot to me to be able to help at this event and make memories with kids who don’t always have an opportunity,” he says. “Everyone should be able to experience the feeling of the basketball family. I’m most looking forward to the simple fact of making great memories for some special kids.”

Questions can be directed to Coach Jenna Palmer at jenna.palmer7@gmail.com or Coach Eileen Copenhaver at ecopenhaver@providencecatholic.org. There is a $30 fee due on the day of camp, and includes a t-shirt for the camper.
