Celtic Spotlight: Junior Roman Guzman

This summer, junior Roman Guzman took his game overseas, competing on one of the biggest stages in youth soccer.

Roman was invited to guest play with the LA Bulls at the Gothia Cup in Gothenburg, Sweden – one of the world’s largest international youth soccer tournaments. Facing teams from Sweden, England and beyond gave Roman the opportunity to experience a completely different level and style of play.

“The pace was so much faster, and everyone was more technical and physical,” Roman said. “It really pushed me to be sharper with the ball and off it, too.”

But the highlight of the experience was about more than competition. Roman was selected as team captain and started at center back, taking on a leadership role with a group of teammates he had only recently met.

“Leading a group of guys I just met and representing them on that big of a stage was unreal,” he said.

Roman has been playing soccer since he was four years old, and now he’s bringing what he learned internationally back to the Celtics. His goal for his junior season? Help Providence make a run to State – while continuing to work toward another opportunity to compete internationally next year.

Congratulations on an incredible experience, Roman! We can’t wait to see what’s ahead!
