Four Student Athletes Commit on National Signing Day

NEW LENOX (November 10, 2021) – Mr. Doug Ternik, Athletic Director at Providence Catholic High School, announced that four student athletes will continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level. “We are extremely proud of these athletes. They are academically accomplished students in the classroom and leaders in their respective sports. We wish all of them the very best in college and in the future, and are excited to see them continue playing at the next level,” said Ternik.

Laurelei Thormeyer of Frankfort, Illinois, daughter of Jason and Theresa Thormeyer, has been recognized for committing to the University of St. Francis to play basketball on athletic and academic scholarship. She plans to major in Business and minor in Pre-Law. Thormeyer is a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. A member of the honor roll and National Honor Society, she is also a basketball player at Providence.  “I want to thank Providence for the opportunity to grow in my Catholic faith, and for the wonderful relationships that I have made,” says Thormeyer. “Keeping my grades up and working on my time management has helped me prepare for the busy and hectic lifestyle of a college athlete.”

Kelley Rourke of Lockport, Illinois, daughter of John and Sharon Rourke, has been recognized for committing to St. Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana, to play softball on academic scholarship. She plans to major in Physical Therapy. Rourke is a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lockport. A member of the honor roll and National Honor Society, she has also been a member of the softball team for three years. Rourke also plays for the 18U Nationals Premier Softball team and has been with the organization for the past four years. “Providence has helped prepare me for college with the courses I have taken and the independence that teachers have given me,” says Rourke.

Drew Brasky of Mokena, Illinois, son of Steve and Carrie Brasky, has been recognized for committing to Denison University to play golf on scholarship. Brasky is a member of St. Jude’s Catholic Church in New Lenox. A member of the honor roll and National Honor Society, he has also been a member of the golf team for four years. In that time, he has served as captain of the golf team, earned the Tony Lawless Award through the Chicago Catholic League, and was the 2020 Catholic League Champion for golf.   “Providence has prepared me for college by giving me a good base and providing me the skills that are needed to be successful in college,” says Brasky.

Megan Duzansky of Mokena, Illinois, daughter of John and Lisa Duzansky, has been recognized for committing to Benedictine University, to play basketball. She plans to major in Special Education. Duzansky is a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Mokena. A member of the honor roll and National Honor Society, Megan has also played on the varsity basketball team all four years of high school. This year, she will serve as the team’s captain.  “Providence has given me an amazing foundation that has made me feel well prepared for college,” says Duzansky. “School has also provided a spiritual environment for me to be able to further develop my spiritual relationships.”
