Two More Athletes Commit to Collegiate Athletics

Mr. Doug Ternik, Athletic Director at Providence Catholic High School, announced that ten student-athletes will continue their academic and athletic careers at the collegiate level across a variety of sports. This makes 29 student-athletes committing so far this year.

“We are extremely proud of these student-athletes and everything they have accomplished at Providence Catholic,” Ternik said. “Their commitment to excellence in the classroom, in competition, and within our community reflects the values of our athletic program. Ava Englert of New Lenox will be attending Saint Louis University to continue her athletic career in dance, and plans to major in Occupational Therapy. The daughter of Craig and Amie Englert, Ava attended Martino Junior High and is a member of St. Jude Parish.

At Providence Catholic, Ava has been actively involved as a Student Ambassador throughout all four years and has also participated in Habitat for Humanity.

Athletically, Ava has been a member of the Dancing Celtics and has earned numerous honors during her high school career. She was part of the 2025 State Champion dance team and received All-Conference honors during her junior and senior years, as well as All-American recognition during both her junior and senior seasons.

“Providence has provided me with an education that will help me in the future and prepare me for real life,” Ava said.

She also expressed gratitude to those who supported her throughout her journey. “I would like to thank my parents, my family, my coaches, my studio teachers, and all my teammates that have supported me,” she said.


Danny Pilon of Manhattan will be attending Loras College to continue his athletic career in volleyball, and plans to major in Business Administration with a minor in Marketing. Danny has also earned the Loras Access Award and the Irish American Society of County Will Scholarship. The son of Mike and Kim Pilon, Danny attended St. Joseph School in Manhattan and is a member of St. Joseph Parish.

A dedicated student, Danny is a member of the Honor Roll and participated in the Stock Market Club during his freshman year at Providence Catholic.

Athletically, Danny has been a four-year member of the Providence Catholic volleyball team and also competed in basketball and football during his freshman year. Throughout his volleyball career, he served as a team captain during his sophomore and senior seasons.

“PCHS has prepared me for college in a number of ways. The teachers were the biggest push. All the teachers have been great in getting me to work hard and stay motivated. The coaches have also been a big push in keeping me focused on school work, hard work, and keeping me on track with school first,” Danny said.

He also expressed gratitude to those who supported him throughout his journey. “I would like to thank my parents for all their support and resources they have used on me. I would also like to thank all my coaches who have helped me be the best athlete I can be and shaping me into the man I am today,” he said.
