Miles Boykin ’15 “The Catch”

Notre Dame’s and Providence Catholic Alumnus, Miles Boykin ’15 pulled one of the best plays of the entire season to beat LSU in the Citrus Bowl.

This is a catch-of-the-year contender. It gave the Irish a 21-17 lead with 1:28 to play, after they’d trailed by a field goal. A defensive stop on LSU’s ensuing drive sealed the win for the Irish and entrenched Boykin as the day’s hero.

The level of difficulty here is off the charts. Boykin had to make the catch with one hand and keep himself in bounds with a defender right on him.

He then had to collect himself and avoid getting shoved out by another defender, then had to juke the same defender he’d Randy Moss’d seconds earlier. If that weren’t enough, he had to race home for a touchdown and not get caught up in the amazing feat he’d pulled off just by making the catch. There’s just so much incredible stuff going on in one play here.

The QB on the play was Ian Book, who spent the year as Notre Dame’s backup. This goes down as an awesome moment for Book, too. He made a nice throw to set it up, and then Boykin did the rest.
