PCHS Names Kathleen Kennedy New Head Tennis Coach

(New Lenox) – Doug Ternik, Athletic Director of Providence Catholic High School, is pleased to announce the hiring of Kathleen Kennedy as the new Varsity Boys and Girls Head Tennis Coach. Kennedy was previously the assistant girl’s tennis coach and is looking forward to the opportunity to impact and expand the tennis program at Providence Catholic.

“I feel honored to be taking over the program,” Kennedy said. “I always wanted to give back and truly make it into something positive and long lasting for Providence Athletics.”

Kennedy (a Tinley Park native) is a 2011 graduate of Providence Catholic and was a tennis player all four years, including a state qualifier. She went on to play at Webster University, St. Louis in the SLIAC St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, where she was both a doubles and singles player. Kennedy went on to be the First Team All-Conference in Tennis and went on to compete in the NCAA tournament. She was also named the SLIAC All-Sportsmanship Team. Kennedy credits Providence Catholic for her long-continued success.

“I want to be different from most coaches,” Kennedy said. “I want to create a team where each person involved models the values of truth, unity, and love. I want them to learn how to develop a sense of sportsmanship so if they win or lose it is always with respect and dignity.”

Kennedy received her Bachelor of Arts in Advertising and Marketing Communications. While attending school, she interned for the St. Louis Blues, St. Louis Cardinals, and ESPN. Upon graduation, Kennedy continued her career at CBS Radio and St. Louis Magazine. After spending seven years in St. Louis, Kennedy made her way back to Providence Catholic as the Director of Communications. She currently resides in Tinley Park with her parents, Jeff and Laura Kennedy.

“She is ready to take over the program, and she will be a great fit,” Ternik said. “The players love her, and she is a product of our program which means she knows our core values of what it truly means to be a Celtic.”

Both boys and girls tennis teams have a good foundation of returning players, and Kennedy believes they will bring leadership and depth to the team.

“I’m shooting for good seasons with both teams,” Kennedy said. ” I think we can go far. If the players really want it, we can once again have success in the state tournament series”.
