PCHS Names Kyle Klaver New Head Volleyball Coach

(New Lenox) – Doug Ternik, Athletic Director of Providence Catholic High School, is pleased to announce the hiring of Kyle Klaver as the new Varsity Boys and Girls Head Volleyball Coach. Klaver was previously the head boys and assistant girls’ volleyball coach and is looking forward to the opportunity to impact and expand the volleyball program at Providence Catholic.

“I am extremely excited,” Klaver said. ” I have been the assistant for the last three years on the varsity level and I am ready to move up and looking forward to enhancing the program.”

Klaver, a Frankfort Square Native, is a graduate of Lincoln-Way East, where he was a member of the boys’ volleyball team. While playing for the Griffins, he led them to back-to-back state appearances with a 4th place finish his senior year. Klaver earned All-Conference honors, was named first team All-State by the Chicago Tribune and Sun-Times, and was named player of the year by the Star Newspaper. He went on to play collegiately at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

“I have been blessed with some great coaching experience leading me up to this point,” Klaver said. “I had amazing mentors and leaders during my time as the assistant coach here at Providence and I hope to take what they have taught me and bring it with me to the next level.”

Klaver received his Bachelor of Arts in Exercise Sport Science with a focus on Education from Carthage College in 2011. Upon graduating, he started teaching Physical Education and Health at Providence Catholic. Klaver has been the head coach for the boys’ volleyball team for the past three years, while assisting on the girls’ side. He has been heavily involved in the club volleyball world for the past 11 years. While in college, he helped to start Southport Volleyball Club in Kenosha, Wisconsin. He continues to coach club for Ultimate Volleyball Club in Frankfort, Illinois, where he coaches the 18 gold boys’ team. Klaver currently resides in Tinley Park with his wife Alexa.

“Klaver has a long history of accomplishments, and we are confident he will lead the program to great success,” Ternik said. “He has been actively involved for the past three years and well known in the local volleyball community.”

Both boys and girl’s teams have a good core of returning players, and Klaver is looking forward to building on the consistency and improve the depth of both teams.

“We gave a lot of good teams a run last season,” Klaver said. “We are looking forward to getting back into the gym and making it to the top this season.”
