Sixteen Providence Catholic Student-Athletes Make College Commitments

NEW LENOX (April 2018) – Mr. Doug Ternik, Athletic Director of Providence Catholic High School announced that sixteen student-athletes from the school will continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level. “We are extremely proud of these student-athletes for their hard work both in the classroom and on the field. We wish them the very best in college and in the future,” said Ternik.

Dominick Ambrose of Tinley Park, son of John and Kimberly Ambrose has committed to North Central College to continue his wrestling career on an athletic and academic scholarship. He plans to major in Biology. Ambrose is a graduate from Grissom Middle School and attends St. Elizabeth Seton Parish in Orland Hills. Ambrose has been a member of the wrestling team all four years and football his freshman year. In his four years, he received Most Improved Athlete Awards, Team Achievement Awards and was awarded MVP his senior year in wrestling. Ambrose has been an honors student all four years and has been a member of Augustinian Youth Ministry and National Honor Society. He served the school as an academic tutor, sacristan, Kairos Retreat leader, and student ambassador.

Ambrose credits Providence Catholic for preparing him these last four years to continue his athletic and academic career at North Central College. “Providence has laid the necessary groundwork for me to be successful at the next level in both academics and athletics,” he said.

Marissa Lewinski of Shorewood, daughter of Jason and Angela Lewinski has committed to Kalamazoo College in Michigan to continue her softball career on an academic and athletic scholarship. She plans to major in computer science or computer engineering. Lewinski is a graduate from Holy Family School and a member of the parish. Lewinski has been a member of the PCHS softball team for four years and she was named MVP and All-Conference Team. Off the field, Lewinski has been active in the school’s art club, manga club and movie club.

Sean Streicher of Plainfield, son of Harold and Renee Streicher has committed to Marian University in Wisconsin to continue his volleyball career on an academic scholarship. He plans to major in finance and minor in accounting. Streicher is a graduate from St. Mary Immaculate School of Plainfield and attends the parish. He has been a member of the volleyball team all four years and cross-country for one. Streicher is an honor student and active in the Respect for Life Club.

Tyler Roat of Lockport, son of Ted and Lisa Roat has signed his National Letter of Intent to the University of Evansville to continue his golf career on an athletic and academic scholarship. He plans to major in business management with accounting. Roat is a graduate from Oak Prairie Junior High School and attends Our Mother of Good Counsel Parish of Homer Glen. Throughout the last four years Roat has been a member of the baseball and golf teams. He was awarded MVP his senior year for golf.

Stefannie Sestak of Manhattan, daughter of John Sestak and Karen Ditzler has committed to the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh to continue her track & field career on an academic scholarship. She plans to major in nursing and minor in Spanish. Sestak is a graduate from Manhattan Junior High. She has been a member of track & field for four years and is an honor student and member of National Honor Society.

Malyssa Daletski of Shorewood, daughter of Matthew Daletski and Laura Vance has committed to the University of Dubuque to continue her softball career on an academic scholarship. She plans to major in communications. Daletski is a graduate from St. Jude School in New Lenox and is a member of the parish. She has participated in track & field and basketball for three where she was named MVP as a freshman. She also played softball for one year. She is an honor student and involved in Augustinian Youth Ministry, National Art Honor Society and the art club.

Daletski feels prepared heading to Dubuque in the fall since attending Providence Catholic. “Providence has prepared me the next four years of both my education and athletics,” she said. “I have grown mentally, physically, and spiritually here. I do not think I could be any more prepared for the next chapter in my life”.

Silvio Gkizas of Homer Glen, son of Constantinos Gkizas and Angela Silverstros-Gkizas has committed to Loras College to continue his soccer career on an academic scholarship. He plans to major in business. Gkizas is a graduate from Koraes Elementary School, Palos Hills and attends Sts Constantine and Helen Parish. He has been a member of the soccer team all four years and was received the following awards: All-Conference, Anthony R. Lawless Award (Outstanding Athlete in the Soccer Chicago Catholic League) 2017, All Area First Team, All Sectional Team and 22ndCentury Media First Team. He is an honor student and was team manager of the PCHS Hockey Team for the last two years.

Payten Bruni of Lockport, daughter of Ross and Lisa Bruni has committed to Saint Mary’s College to continue her basketball career on an academic scholarship. She plans to major in elementary education and minor in early childhood education. Bruni is a graduate from Kelvin Grove Jr. High in Lockport and attends Saint Dennis Parish in Lockport. She has been a member of the basketball team all four years and awarded the Most Improved Athlete her senior year. She played volleyball for one year and softball for two. Throughout her last four years she has been an honor student and a member of Augustinian Youth Ministry and National Honor Society.

Bruni credits Providence Catholic High School for her success and preparation to attend Saint Mary’s in the Fall. “Providence Catholic has prepared me for college by challenging me in classes, giving me preparation for the courses I will take in college, and having people be there to help me figure out my future,” she said.

Hannah Falejczyk of Manhattan, daughter of Matt and Cindy Falejczyk has committed to Alma College in Michigan to continue her softball career on an academic scholarship. She will be majoring in pre-med and minor in business. Falejczyk is a graduate from Manhattan Junior High School and attends St. Mary Mokena Parish. She has been a member of the softball team all four years and was awarded the MVP her sophomore year. She has been a honor student and a member of the National Honor Society and the art club.

Logan Anderson of Frankfort, son of Robert and Roxanne Anderson signed his National Letter of Intent to South Suburban College to continue his Baseball career on an athletic scholarship. He plans to major in education. Anderson is a graduate Summit Hill Junior High School and attend St. Stephen Parish. A three-sport athlete for four years, Anderson has been a member of the school’s baseball, football and wrestling teams. He was named All-Conference in both wrestling and baseball.

“I would like to thank the Providence community for helping prepare me for college,” he said. “Thank you to coach Mark Smith for believing in me and helping me obtain my goal of playing college baseball.”

Dylan Doyle of New Lenox, son of Ken and Kate Doyle has signed his National Letter of Intent to Prairie State College to continue his baseball career on an athletic scholarship. Doyle is a graduate from Liberty Junior High School and attends St. Dennis Parish, Lockport. He has been a member of the baseball team both his freshman and senior year.

Edward “Berkley” Linthicum of New Lenox, son of Brad and Kim Linthicum has committed to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville to continue his football career on an academic scholarship. He plans to major in mechanical engineering. Linthicum has been a member of the football, basketball, wrestling and lacrosse teams. He has been involved in Providence Catholic’s pastoral department as a sacristan

“The teachers and coaches at Providence Catholic have given me an amazing foundation of core values that I’m going to utilize in college,” Linthicum said. “I feel confident that their guidance has prepared me for the challenges ahead.”

Hunter Dauparas of Mokena, son of Jerry and Stephanie Dauparas has committed to Colgate University to continue his football career. He will be majoring in economics with a minor in political science. Dauparas is a graduate from Alex M Martino Jr. High School in New Lenox and attends Saint Jude Parish, New Lenox. He was a member of the basketball team for two years, bass fishing for two years and football for all four years. Throughout his career, Dauparas was an honor student. He was also selected as a Sacristan and was named Student of the Month.

Dauparas says that Providence Catholic prepared him to go on to the next level. “Providence changed my mind set and work ethics,” he said. “Before going to Providence, I had no study habits or work ethic but the football team and teachers changed that around and now I take pride in it.”

Rachael Dion of Lockport, daughter of Michael and Julie Dion has signed her National Letter of Intent to St. Ambrose University to continue her volleyball career on an academic and athletic scholarship. She plans to major in biology. Dion is a graduate from St. Dennis School and is a parishioner. She has been a member for the volleyball team for all four years and was named All-Conference, Oak Lawn All-Tournament Team and Oswego East All-Tournament Team. Dion is a member of the National Honor Society and has been involved in the school’s chapter of Habitat for Humanity for four years.

Dion says Providence has enhanced her spirituality and that is something she will bring with her to college. “Spirituality is an important aspect in my life, and Providence has strengthened that through all-school Mass, Kairos Retreat, and daily prayer,” she said. “The atmosphere at Providence is very welcoming and reflective of our Augustinian values of truth, unity, and love.”

Logan Szabo of Tinley Park, son of Charlton and Brandi Szabo has signed his National Letter of Intent to St. Ambrose University to continue his lacrosse career on an athletic scholarship. He plans to major in psychology and minor in business. Szabo is a graduate from St. George School and attends the parish. He played Providence Catholic football for three years and lacrosse for four years. Off the field, Szabo is an honor student and involved in Augustinian Youth Ministry, science club and True Lacrosse Club.

Ethan Petric of Elwood, son of Raymond and Jennifer Petric has committed to Joliet Junior College to continue his baseball career. He plans on majoring in business marketing. Petric is a graduate from Elwood Jr. High School. He has been a member of the baseball and basketball teams all four years.
