PCHS Students Make Blankets For Young Patients

(New Lenox) – Providence Catholic students helped brighten the day of children across the country by making blankets for Project Linus. Through this organization, blankets are collected locally and distributed to children in hospitals, shelters, social service agencies, or anywhere that a child might be in need of a big hug.

PCHS students donated the blanket material, which were then made by members of the AYM Club at the school. AYM – Augustinian Youth Ministry is one of the largest service organizations at Providence Catholic promoting Christian service and Augustinian spirituality.

AYM members hope to make many blankets this year for Project Linus. This is the second year sophomore, Maggie Hurley, has volunteered her time to collect and make blankets for kids in need. We’re trying to make the hospital stay for them as bearable as possible, so we try to do a lot of projects for them,” she said. “It is a very rewarding feeling to give back to the community.”

Throughout the year, AYM organizes two blood donor drives, two food drives, clothing drive and many other inside service activities that benefit Providence, as well as the outside communities. AYM members are also expected to attend mass with AYM as their intention and complete 10 outside services hours to their parish or community.
