World Language Dept.
The World Languages Department believes that the study of foreign language enriches one’s life. In keeping with the Christian values of tolerance and acceptance, it strives to instill an understanding, an appreciation, and a respect for the language and culture of other peoples. The department encourages the development of the unique potential of each student, as well as the ability to interact with the multi-cultural communities of the greater world.
Seal of Biliteracy Program
Providence Catholic High School offers students the opportunity to earn the Illinois State Seal of Biliteracy and the Global Seal of Biliteracy—prestigious awards that recognize high levels of proficiency in both English and an additional language, such as Spanish or French. These awards not only celebrate students’ language skills but also enhance college applications, scholarship opportunities, and future career paths.

Students demonstrate proficiency by taking the STAMP4S language assessment, typically offered during the school day for upper-level Spanish and French courses. While students may qualify for an award in earlier grades, official recognition is granted at graduation. The cost of the exam is added to the student’s FACTS account and usually ranges between $20–$30.
Earning the State Seal can also lead to tangible academic benefits: all Illinois public colleges and universities must award college credit for the Seal, saving students time and tuition on foreign language requirements. These awards appear on student transcripts and diplomas and can be proudly included on resumes, job applications, and college portfolios.
