A letter from Coach Seff:

Dear Celtic,

I’m writing this letter from Arizona, our home to keep out of the Illinois winters. It was always a dream to spend some of my retirement years where it is warm. Another one of my dreams was to be a teacher and football coach. I was very fortunate to be both at Providence Catholic.

During my 40 years at Providence I met some incredible people that I worked with, some fantastic parents who made many financial sacrifices to entrust their children to us and some awesome student athletes who worked hard in the classroom and the athletic arena. I believe your successes in these areas built a tremendous legacy for PCHS. Many of you were members of our 30 state championship teams.

Over the years it has become very difficult for all Catholic schools to maintain their enrollment numbers because of rising costs. Also, it is tough to maintain facilities and programs that are attractive to all parents and students. Another factor is that the number of potential high school students has gone down in our area (the closing of L-Way North).

It is tough to see 4 or 5 other Catholic school buses in neighborhoods where PCHS buses were the only ones. We need to maintain the excellence we have established in academics, athletics and spirituality. In order to do this, we need your help, not only with money, but with your presence, at various events. This means all former athletes from all sports. We need to be able to be competitive with the other Catholic schools (you know who they are) in the area of financial aid to give all students the things we believe all young men and women need.

I recall many times talking with senior football players, telling them that there will be a time when you will be asked and afforded the opportunity to give back to the school that gave you so much. That time is NOW!!

This letter is coming in conjunction with information from a group of former athletes who “Bleed Green.”  Get involved! Come to events!  Come to the golf outings or the Hall of Fame events. I recently went to the Class of 1969’s 50th Reunion and many said they forgot what a great time it was in high school. Don’t wait 50 years; get off the couch and get involved. We need every one of you.

Love every one of you,

Coach Seff
