Black History Month 2022

This month, Providence Catholic faculty and students will be celebrating and learning more about Black History Month in a few different ways. Several of the morning prayers will be devoted to learning more about Black History Month. In addition, faculty will be implementing Black History Month within their lesson plans. Check back to see more of what is going on inside the classrooms to mark this month, and follow us on social media for photos and more!

About IALAC 2.0
In 2018, Providence Catholic brought in the Anti-Defamation League to train 32 students as Peer Leaders to promote a community of acceptance and inclusion. Since then, we have trained 18 additional students (and are training more this year) to replace the seniors who have graduated. These students serve as the nucleus of the IALAC 2.0 organization, whose purpose is to promote Inclusion, Awareness, Leadership, Acceptance, and Community among the student body. IALAC 2.0 builds on the original IALAC program (I Am Lovable And Capable) used during the New Celtic Welcome retreat.

You can also look back on some of the ways students took part in Black History Month last year.

Black History Month Project – Psychology
Mrs. Williams’s Psychology Class researched several historical figures in black history, and shared the information outside of their classroom for the rest of the school to see. Please take a moment to click on the photos and learn more about them!

Black History Month – Authors You Should Know
Mrs. Harris has created a display in the BLC with black authors. If you are looking for something to read, stop by and find a book you connect with by one of these writers. If you need assistance, Mrs. Harris can help you pick one out that will educate and make an impact on you!

Black History Month – Strong Figures in History
Need a little inspiration? Visit the library for quotes from strong black leaders. Shirley Chisholm, Frederick Douglas, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Thurgood Marshall, Michelle and Barack Obama, Carol Moseley Braun and Clarence Thomas are just a few you will see.
