Students of the Month – October 2020

Dr. John Harper, Principal of Providence Catholic High School, is pleased to announce the school’s “Students of the Month” for October. “We are very proud of these students who were recognized for achievements and/or improvement in school courses as well as other school-related activities,” said Harper. “It has indeed been a unique year, and their perseverance in spite of the circumstances is a testament to their character.”

Every month, each academic department chairperson selects one student as its “Student of the Month” from a number of students nominated by faculty and staff. Students of the Month receive a certificate of recognition, have their photos displayed in Providence Catholic High School’s main hallway for the following month and receive a special lunch. This year, the school is also choosing one online learning student each month as well, and having a special lunch delivered to their home. (See photos at the bottom of this release!)

The Providence Catholic Students of the Month for October are:

Emily Langlois (sophomore, New Lenox, chosen for Computer Science and Applications)
“Emily clearly puts time and energy into her classwork. She also reflects the caring kindness that is Providence Catholic. Emily is a supportive classmate, often helping others with their questions. She is friendly and outgoing, which has made her a friend to all in our small class,” says Ms. Laura Moss, computer teacher. Emily is a graduate of Liberty Junior High in New Lenox.

Daphne Arispe (sophomore, Joliet, chosen for Fine Arts)
“Daphne does high quality work, is thoroughly dependable in meeting deadlines and asks questions when needed. She really has done a great job despite the challenges of full-time online learning!” says Mrs. Denise Zlogar, art teacher. Daphne is a graduate of St. Jude New Lenox.

Cameron Sicinski (sophomore, Joliet, chosen for Theology)
“Cameron submitted an outstanding summative assessment that answered this question: How does knowledge of biblical hermeneutics (interpretation) and the historical background of 1st century Palestine help us to understand Jesus and His message?” says Mr. Paul Ickes, theology teacher. “I am convinced that the Gospel writer John especially would consider Cameron a soulmate for her depiction of Jesus and the time he lived.” Cameron is a graduate of St. Paul the Apostle in Joliet.

Vincent Cappello (senior, Homer Glen, chosen for Mathematics)
“Vinny has been off to a great start so far this year,” says Mr. Dan Potempa, math teacher. “I always know that I will get 100% from Vinny. I have enjoyed seeing him on the days that he is in school 1st period and I hope he continues to work hard and do well the rest of the year. Keep up the good work, Vinny!” Vinny is a graduate of St. Michael in Orland Park.

Bailey Griffis (junior, Plainfield, chosen for World Languages)
“Bailey has stood out in so many ways this year in class,” says Dr. Michael Burke, Spanish teacher. “Although we have only been together for such a short period of time, Bailey has excelled in all facets of my class. She is a critical thinker that relishes any opportunity to challenge herself and improve in any way. Bailey is a star, I can’t wait to see what the future holds for her.” Bailey is a graduate of Noonan Academy in Mokena.

Taylor Issa (senior, Shorewood, chosen for Social Sciences)
“Taylor consistently puts forward her best effort in all that she does,” says Mr. Josh Ditzler, social studies teacher. “Her daily participation is much appreciated, and she is a great citizen of our school.” Taylor is a graduate of St. Paul the Apostle in Joliet.

Ashley Chaveriat (senior, Tinley Park, chosen for English)
“Ashley wrote a very original college application essay that showcases her creativity and writing skills,” says Mrs. Mary Beth Harris, English teacher. “Further, she is a great addition to class, bringing enthusiasm and positivity. Ashley is a graduate of St. George School in Tinley Park.

Mia Ficht (junior, Frankfort, chosen for Science)
“Mia is consistently engaged and productive despite the difficulty in the learning environment this year,” says Mr. Sean Richards, science teacher. “She has only been in my class for a couple weeks and even then I only get to see her in person a few of those days, but she’s already left an impression of excellence that exemplifies a great student!” Mia is a graduate of Noonan Academy in Mokena.

Abigail Pintoy (senior, Plainfield, chosen for Fine Arts)
“Abigail is an extremely creative and talented student who has turned in superior work since the beginning of the year,” says Mrs. Denise Zlogar, art teacher. “I hope that she continues to take art courses, even in college. She is an excellent artist and a very positive presence in the classroom.” Abigail is a graduate of St. Mary Immaculate in Plainfield.
